I'm usually viewed to be a "ghetto-looking" young mother until I speak and express my interests in life.
I'm usually viewed as an irresponsible young mother until I explain that I've held the same job for a few years and express that I want to go to school to better my future.
When I call myself a nerd, people look at my large thighs and sizable bust and think I'm lying, but they're never seen my lay into a hoard of Psychos on Borderlands, know how to evolve Chao on Sonic Adventure and manage to complete levels 100% on platformers, as well as crowning witches on Left 4 Dead and tanking with Ash on Paladins(before it became more play to win)
Being judged by my smile or not: If I never smile, people stray. Those crazy enough to speak to me tend to find out that I'm a wonderful person.
Being seen as black, people tend to judge me before actually speaking to me. I'm not "your typical black person". Is that an okay thing to say? IMHO: Yes and No.
Just because I'm not typically loud, I'm not like any other person of color? Because I have a good head on my shoulders? That doesn't mean that ones running the streets don't.
Why do we always stereotype and judge people before we actually know them?
Why do we tend to dislike people just because a friend doesn't?
You could end up shunning away the best book that you ever read just because of someone else's opinion.
...This was more of a rant that came to mind. My bad.
