My dreams were full of smoke and feathers and bright golden figures with evil laughs but for a brief moment I was happy because I knew it was not real, the devil would never let them harm me. Then I opened my eyes and the hard truth hit me like a ton of bricks. I flinched as pain flooded back into my body, threatening to throw me right back into oblivion but I fought it away. I was no longer surprised to find myself in a strange place I didn’t know…and this was definitely a strange place. Rolling onto my back I stared up at a baby blue sky dotted with lines of cirrus clouds. What’s this? The underworlds sky never turned blue. Glancing around I noticed that the room I was in seemed puffy as though made up of clouds, the arches and columns reminding me of a roman temple. Pushing myself into a sitting position I saw an alter in the center of the room and I quickly climbed to my feet, stumbling and wobbling as I tried to walk on the soft ground. Slowly I made it, hesitantly pushing myself up the stairs and peering into something that looked like a giant bowl filled half way with silvery liquid. I found myself staring as the liquid seemed to sparkle and fog, rippling in a soft breeze. When the surface settled once more it did not return to its luminescent silver but took on a turquoise hue. I was about to turn away when movement caught my eye and I looked closer. I gasped as I realized that it was the underworld. A few brightly colored flowers flew by before the trees stopped moving across the screen so fast and a dark figure pushed their way out of the trees and bushes. It was him, it was the devil. `My heart fluttered as I saw him, standing there against the light pink sky. His face was as always covered but I could see his fury in his eyes as he looked up at a small cluster of clouds in the distance, the sky near the clouds seemed to look strangely lavender. Satan kept moving, climbing over steep rocks and jumping over fallen stumps as he walked in the direction of the clouds that seemed to get bigger and bigger as time went by and the sky around it lightened into a royal blue. I must have watched him for several hours before I heard the flutter of wings and the thump of footsteps outside the door. When the door opened the scene inside the bowl disappeared and once again I was alone with these strange beings. There were five of them that filed into the room, spreading out around the strange alter and looking down at their robes. How once I could see their faces but even though each was more handsome then the next I knew not to trust them. Gabriel was the last to file in and he stood in front of the door as it closed behind him. He glanced up at me and smiled, a shiver ran down my spine but I stood my ground. Our eyes locked I barely noticed the others begin to chant, the sound making my hair stand on end. It was so surreal it didn’t seem possible that anything could make such a sound. I pulled my gaze from Gabriel’s and looked at the others, their faces now turned to the sky and wings spread as though ready to take flight. But they didn’t fly away; they just stood there chanting faster and faster, the words unintelligible and eerie. Slowly I noticed a soft mist coming off the bowl and gathering high above, my eyes grew large and I jumped away from the alter. The angels grabbed my arms and held me still as the mist took on a humanoid shape. The cloudy figure bulged with white fluffy muscles, his features sharp despite being composed of clouds. I push away the urge to scream as the giant looks down at me, contempt in his eyes. The monstrous being pokes me in the chest and I cry, pain nearly tossing me back into darkness but I fight it. He looks over at Gabriel, displeasure thick in his thundering voice. “You wounded her” he accused and I could see panic in the angel’s eyes. “I’m sorry my lord, it wasn’t my fault. Malakh dropped her” The large being just glared at him “I’ll resolve this later” then he turned to me with his piercing gaze and I wished that the darkness ad taken me. “What’s your name devil helper?” I didn’t answer; I didn’t want them to hear my voice shake. He waited a moment before demanding it again and I mustered up my courage to answer. “It’s Lin your cloudiness” I called up to him and he smiled in a way that seemed sad. “Why do you stay with the demon known as Satan?” my voice quivered. “He saved me” The being laughed mockingly “he cares not for you young one. He wants only to corrupt and destroy your soul” “No!” I cried and charged for the door, the angel’s laughter following me. Gabriel didn’t stop me and I didn’t care why as I ran down hallway after hallway trying to find my way out. After what seemed like hours of running I came to a courtyard of sorts. There were no walls here, just misty vines and flowers of soft peaceful hues that mocked my need to escape. Hope flared inside me and I force my growing exhaustion away as I ran to the other end but there wasn’t a way down. My hope died leaving only exhaustion and loneliness. The sound of beating wings warned me and I glance up, flinching at the sight of the angel. It was Gabriel, laughing under his breath as he landed. “Trying to find your way down young Lin?” he spat out my name as though it were distasteful and I gritted my teeth, repressing a shiver. “Here let me give you a hand” he said with a sneer and he swung his wing at me, knocking me over the edge. Wind rushed by me and I smiled softly, peacefully. Closing my eyes I welcomed the darkness as it engulfed me. Pain slammed through my body and I cried out, whispering for him as everything faded away.
