Chapter 42:

Sara woke with a small jolt, it was very early in the morning. Something had woke her and it took her a minute to remember where she was and who was holding her. His hand had made it's way up her shirt and the tingling feeling is what woke her. She thought something was crawling on her. She hated that feeling. She shifts a bit, she was still laying on his chest, his arms wrapped around her tightly, keeping her safe. Even in his sleep he was looking out for her. She smiles a bit, still surprised to see just how much he changed. She had a hand in that, and she wondered if she should be messing with this type of thing any longer. It really did seem she was here for the long run. Whatever brought her here, was permanent. Still all her memories of her old life, was still there, so it wasn't like it changed that much. It was all still strange to think about. The only question now was if anything happened to her, what then? Would she just die like anyone else, or would something else happen. She still wasn't sure and she wasn't about to find out anytime soon. Arthur lets out a small grunt as he pulls her into him, bucking his hips just slightly. She blushes a bit, getting an idea of what he was dreaming about. "Oh Arthur.." He lets out another grunt as his hands travel up. "Sara..." He whispers her name, he was definitely thinking of her it seemed. She turns slightly as she kisses his neck. "Wake up Arthur." He shakes himself awake and blinks, looking down at her. She could feel him poking her through his tight uniform. "Good morning my dear, dream of me often?"

He looked a bit sheepish as he looks to the wall. "I was dreaming?" He had to admit, it had been a good dream. But he much rather have the real thing and here she was, still in his lap. He lets out a husky growl at her. "Guess I'll have to make up for it.." She giggles at him softly, placing her hand on his chest. "Not here, we have work to do.." He lets out a frustrated grunt at this. "Right, we're here for a reason.." He hugs her tight again as he kisses her lightly. It was still far to early for anyone else to be awake, But they both got ready as they gathered their gear. She watches as he runs his hand through his hair and straightens his coat. He was still one handsome b*****d, even more so now he only had that shadow of a beard. "I'm so getting you naked when we get back on the ship." His eyes go wide at this as she slips out the room. Let him sit on that image for a bit as she wonders the building. Several of the soldiers were ready to fight, even Danse was standing guard as they look out at Quincy. "Any movements?" Danse shakes his head. "No ma'am, it doesn't seem like they know we're here. We still have the element of surprise.." She smiles at this. "Good, it'll make this go a lot smoother." She turns to see Nate, ready to go as well. He had taken the time to wake everyone else up. Poor Hancock did not looked pleased, neither did MacCready. "Aww, does someone need their beauty sleep?" MacCready just grumbles at her as Hancock crosses his arms. "Hey I'll have you know it takes a lot of hard work to look as handsome as I do.." She shakes her head at him. "You wish." He looked slightly disappointed in this.

To her surprise, the Brotherhood soldiers had left him alone, for the most part. They would glare at him sure, but mostly because they had no idea what to make of the Ghoul. He would just wink at them however and they were quick to look elsewhere. She looks up as Arthur joins, and everyone was ready it seemed. It seemed like the best time to launch the attack as she turns to Preston. "Alright, you know this place better then we do, walk us through what we might run into." He nods as he draws out a rough map of the area. Most of it was blocked off by walls, but it still had a few spots they could use. It wasn't so much the ones on the ground, there was a good number of then held up in what was left of the highway. He goes over every spot, every building. Sara nods, already knowing the area well enough, she's been here before. She should had looked into a mod that let you take back the town, but she never thought about it till now. "Alright, listen up, we don't know their numbers, but they have no idea we're here. Preston, you and the other Minutemen will cover the low ground. Those in power armor, will cover the highway, the rest of us will make our way to the catwalks and clear out any snipers that might be hiding, any questions?" Arthur blinks at her a bit, damn she was good at this. He lets out a low cough as she blushes. "Errr sorry, got anything Elder sir?" He shakes his head. "I'm starting to think I should have stayed on the ship." She rolls her eyes at him as she pulls out her weapon. "Alright people, we'll split up and surround the area, don't fire until we all get into place. If we attack all at once, they won't have enough time to attack back, now lets move out!" The Brotherhood soldiers all salute her. "Ad Victoriam!"

They all head out, weapons ready as they all head out. The sun was slowly starting to rise, lighting the land around them. It happened so quickly, and it wasn't long before they swarmed the place. However these weren't just raiders, they were gunners. They were a lot less predicable when it came to fighting. Oddly enough she finds her way to the broken highway to see a man in a old looking suit of power armor, and a Fat Man on his shoulder. Arthur was right beside her as she aims for the fusion core, and the whole things blows. She covers her head as bits of metal go flying and she slowly pokes her head out to see the Fat Man launcher was still in one piece. "We'll there's a good sign.." She slowly walks over, the thing was huge and loaded. She wasn't to sure she could lift it, but Arthur does as she looks out. She blinks when she sees a flash of green and helps MacCready to where they were standing. "You alright there buddy?" He nods as he takes a deep breath. "Yeah, there's a whole bunch of them hiding over there." He points out as Arthur takes aim. "Holy s**t duck!" She grabs the mercenary as Arthur fires the weapon and everything goes white for a moment. She slowly picks herself up as MacCready dusts himself off. "Fu-fricken hell, a warning would had been nice!" She looks at the spot Arthur hit as she lets out a low laugh. "We'll the area is clear now...just don't get mixed up in the rads when you go down there." He shakes his head as he pulls out his rifle, looking for more targets. "Not like I was planing on having more kids anyways..." She rolls her eyes at him. "You're such a drama queen." They move down again as she sees a flash of red. She finds Hancock as he shakes himself off. "You okay, did you get caught in the blast?" He shakes his head at this. "Nah, but that was one hell of a light show, what was that?"

"We found a Fat Man and used it on those gunners. Seems it got the job done." He lets out a low whistle, even if it sounded strange. "Man you Brotherhood types don't half a** things do ya?" Sara just chuckles at this as Arthur just sort of keeps his eyes on her. He was wondering how it was so easy for her to be relaxed around just about anyone. Hancock tilts his head a bit. "So Elder, you don't look that old." She gives him a shove. "It's a title you dingus, he's the man in charge." He lets out a raspy chuckle as he takes a step back. "He's giving me the, 'step away from my girl' look." She rises her brow, sure enough, he was and she hangs her head a bit. "Oh my gosh you people I swear..." She gives Hancock a shove and they get moving again. By the time the sun had fully risen, Quincy was as quiet as it ever been in sometime. Preston looks around, some of the buildings were on fire, but they could be rebuilt. All in all, the plan worked rather well. "I don't believe it, I never thought we would ever take this place back after...everything.." He looks down a bit, feeling a bit ashamed that they couldn't have done this sooner. So many lives could had been saved. Nate walks over to him as he wraps his arm around him. "Hey this isn't your fault you know. But we can rebuild now, and make it a settlement again." Preston smiles at this, but could hardly hold back the tears he was so happy. When they all gathered they made one last sweep of the place. They wanted to make sure the area was safe before they set up a beacon to call nearby settlers to let them now Quincy was safe once again. Some of the soldiers even volunteered to stay put and help guard the place until they knew for sure it was safe. Arthur was fine with this, a bit proud to see his men offer to help.

Preston walks up to Sara, a large smile on his face. "Thank you, for your help." Sara tips her hat to him. "You're more then welcome." She blinks as someone wraps their arm around her, almost dragging her down a bit. "Drinks on me!" Hancock yells as he pulls out a bottle of vodka and drinks the whole thing. "Will it's in you now, a lot of good that does the rest of us..." He almost coughs it up as she just smiles all innocent like. MacCready just shakes his head as he looks at Nate. "Where do you find these people?" Nate just shrugs as he stands next to Danse. The Paladin just lowers his head, still trying to hid in his armor. "I didn't find her, the Brotherhood found her." She just waves at him. "I cleared out the airport of Feral's when they found me." Hancock blinks at this as he lowers his bottle. "s**t sister, I knew you were dangerous, but you never told me that.." She pulls his hat down over his eyes. "You never asked good sir.." He stumbles a bit as Nate chuckles deeply. Arthur makes his way over to her as he takes his place at her side now that the Ghoul was stumbling around blind as he tried to remove his hat. She just leans into him a bit, she leans away for just a minute, when a shot rings out and she goes forward. Arthur catches her as he sees blood quickly cover her shoulder. "Damn it, spread out, find the b*****d that did this!" Danse and Nate go running as MacCready rises his rifle, spotting the jerk that shot the woman. "Gunner, he's making a run for it." He opens fire as the others go after the man. The nearby Scribes take Sara as they look at her shoulder. It looked bad as one of them throw a signal grenade. They hold her shoulder to slow down the bleeding as someone gives her a shot of Med-X to help with the pain. They would have to get her onto the ship to really get an idea of where the bullet may have ended up in.

Arthur never leaves her side as the Vertibird finally seems to show up and they get her inside. They waste no time heading back to the Prydwen. Hell Arthur barely waits for the pilot to get settled in before leaping to the walkway with her in his arms. He gets her to Cade quickly as he removes her uniform quickly. He takes a look at her shoulder, the bullet was still in there. "You might want to keep her still." Arthur nods, he knew this feeling oh to well as he keeps a good hold on her. Cade then carefully removes the bullet, making her jolt a bit. Thankfully the Med-X was doing it's job as he shoves a stimpak into her to help her heal before wrapping her up. Arthur stays at her side as Cade steps back. "There, she'll be fine after some rest." The Elder just nods slowly, a sinking feeling slowly setting in. They could had been aiming for him, and they hit her instead. He shakes the thought away as he looks to Cade. "Thank you.." The doctor just smiles as he cleans up a bit. "It's my job sir, I'm just glad you got her here as quickly as you did and the bullet hadn't gotten to far." He leads the small room so Arthur could just sit beside her. She didn't stay out for long as the drugs ware off and she looks up at him. "Where are we?" He leans forward a bit. "We're on the Prydwen, you were shot..." She winces a bit as she places her hand on her shoulder. "That's why it hurts, man I don't remember a thing outside of something hitting me..." He kisses the side of her head lightly. "Cade took out the bullet, so you'll be fine at least.." She lets out a low laugh, she had never been shot before. "Good to know I can survive a gun wound, at least they only got my shoulder.."

Arthur frowns at this. "Don't go making this a habit.." She gives him a small smile. "Doesn't this sort of thing come with the job?" He glares at her a bit, but she was right of course. "Arthur I'll be fine, really.." She holds onto his hand lightly as he sighs deeply. "I can't help but worry..." He worried about all his soldiers, but this was still new to him. "I don't want to lose you so soon..." She tightens her grip on him a bit. "I know, trust me I know.." He seems to relax a bit, she wasn't going anywhere for awhile. She smirks at him a bit. "So does this mean you'll take care of me?" She wiggles her brows at him as he smirks slightly at this. It was hard to say no to that as he kisses her. "Maybe...later." Cade wonders back in to check on her. He gives her the all clear to leave, but to take it easy. Even with all the medication it would take awhile for her shoulder to heal. Arthur just leads her to their room and gets her into bed. He didn't even get the chance to remove his coat before someone was knocking at his door, loudly. Someone was pissed as Arthur opens his door to see his Captain. Kells was ferrous, he just got word that not only had Arthur left the ship. But he had run off with his wife to go clear out some town. "The hell were you thinking, the both of you running off like that!?" Arthur crosses his arms at this, glaring at him. "Last time I check, I'm the one in charge, not you." Kells stood a bit taller, well as tall as he could against Arthur. "Damn it, you're our Elder we can't afford to lose you in battle, or our new Sentinel. You're responsible for keeping her safe at least long enough to give you an heir."

Sara slowly sits up, holding her shoulder. Kells was making it sound like the only reason she was here was to give Arthur a child. Even he was seeing red as he shoves his finger at Kells. "How dare you speak to me this way. I love this woman, and the fact you continue to question me, speaks volumes about your loyalty." Kells looked genuinely surprised by this. Like he really believed that Arthur only choose her for that reason. Hearing otherwise was throwing him for a loop. "With all due respect sir, whatever game you're playing here needs to stop, it's unfair to her.." Arthur was pissed now as he shoves the Captain out of his room. "I've had enough, I won't stand by and let you slander the woman I love!" He was shouting, he couldn't care less. He was in charge, and he didn't appreciate when people questioned him. "I'm revoking your title as Captain, I'm stationing you into the base till farther notice. I don't want to see you near this ship, is that clear?" Kells just looked at him, his jaw slightly open as he slowly looks down. "Yes...sir..." Kells had overstepped his bounds as he was removed of his uniform. He was given a more standard outfit and his hat had been taken away as he has his man escort him off the ship. Arthur returns to his room, closing his door once again. She hadn't moved from the bed as she keeps her eyes on him.

He quickly makes his way to her side as he places his hands on her face. He really hoped she didn't get the wrong idea thanks to his so called 'Captain'. A part of him had wondered just how long he had been keeping these thoughts. The more he thought about it, the more pissed off he was getting. Wondering if everyone thought this about him. "None of it is true..." He had to make sure she knew that as she smiles at him. "I know, I believe we had this talk before.." He slowly seems to relax, but she could still see the anger in his eyes. "Still, that doesn't make what he said right. I honestly have no idea why he thinks I only picked you for...that.." He lets out a low growl. "Great now I have to replace him...temporarily.." She tilts her head at this. "You don't have some backup Captain?" It sounded like a stupid question, but he shakes his head. "Never thought I'd need one..." He sighs as he runs his hand over his face. She holds his hand lightly. "Don't worry about it, we'll just have to cover things for awhile." He just nods slowly at this as he removes his coat and joins her. She leans her head back as she tries to relax again. He was still angry, not that she really blamed him. She wraps her arms around him and he slowly seems to let his anger go. She smiles at this as she leans in, and kisses him. That seems to do the trick as he hides his face in her neck, just breathing her in. She holds him close, trying to ignore the pain in her shoulder. The drugs were slowly kicking in as she falls asleep against him. He lets her rest, watching over her. At least she was safe now, he'll just have to worry about his Captain later.
