I've played Pokémon since Red and Blue to Sword and Shield. While Sword and Shield have it's own issues I still feel that X and Y are still the worst. I mean it was so bad they didn't bother to continue it in a third game like normal. Hell they canceled events because it did poorly.

So X and Y was the game that gave us Fairy types as well as Mega Evolutions. Now that wasn't a bad idea, but they handled it in a weird way. They throw stones at you like no tomorrow, you even get a free Pokémon that can Mega Evolve, no questions asked. It's unbalanced and makes the game far to easy. Not only that but they also throw a TON of starter Pokémon at you. The ones you get at the start of the game, plus the Kanto starters and a Mega Stone.

The other issue is rivals. Dear lord there's so many and they don't stand out. The only kid I remember is the one that liked dancing. Like hell I remember names, they're so forgettable. This kind of goes with the "champion" as well. You meet her rather early in the game and....does nothing. I do mean, NOTHING for the story. I get Lance wasn't a huge plot point in Red, but you still remembered him, mostly for cheating but still you remember him. Diantha is just some chick with a really strange team that's so easy to get through. I had to look up her name she's that forgettable.

As for the story it's hard to explain, they do explain what's going on bit by bit. But at some point they really just throw everything at once and expect you to care. Kind of how they handled the story for Sword and Shield. It just doesn't repeat stuff you already know like you're an idiot.

I don't know, it's been years and I think I'll give it another go just to really see where this game fails.
