Chapter 2:

Seeing the Prydwen up close and personal, blew her away. Getting to met everyone, almost made her head spin. However the entire time the only thing crossing her mind was to just remain calm. She was surprised to see her gun was still at her side. Elder Maxson was showing a great deal of faith that she wouldn't harm anyone. He didn't seem to worried as they made it to the power armor station. Seeing them, being able to touch one, made her realize this was real. The inner nerd in her was practically screaming. Of course Maxson was still talking, but she only caught bits of pieces of what he was talking about. Most of what he was saying she already knew anyways. She was introduced to Proctor Ingram, the head engineer of this place. She was the go to person if something wasn't working right. Sara couldn't help but let out a low whistle. "That's...impressive, and a lot of work...are you..the only one here that keeps up maintenance?" Ingram gives her a small shrug. "Most of the folks here know the basics, but when things just don't seem to work no mater what..." Sara lets out a low laugh. "You're the one they come to..must get annoying." "Can't complain." She turns to Maxson who was listening quietly. "Work is work after all." Sara lets out a low groan, a passing memory flouting through her mind. "Beats dealing with a bunch of jerks whining you made their food wrong....constantly..." Didn't help people always seemed to change their minds at the last minute. "Did I tell you I didn't want onions, yeah I don't want onions on my burger....just as we finish making it!" She tries hard not to let out a frustrated growl. "Six years working as a cook, and you learn one thing, you can fix the equipment...but you can't fix stupid..."

Ingram blinks at this. "You can fix things?" Sara rubs the back of her head. "Well if I can't, spare parts am I right?" "You were a cook?" Sara half jump, forgetting Maxson was still behind her. "Fff...yes...gives a girl a heart attack..." She looks down a bit, maybe she should down play her odd way of speaking. Damn speech problems. "Wasn't anything fancy mind you, but it kept me busy. The countless confused looks I got because of my multitasking, was always amusing. Like yes, I can talk and blink at the same time..behold!!" Ingram was laughing at this point, already catching wind on how they found her. "You know, I hope you stay, that's hilarious." Sara lets out a low sigh. "You know that tiny voice in your head that tells you to shut up, yeah mind died in the blaze of glory. As well as my will to deal with those...jerks that always wanted to talk to my boss...I'm the one in charge, your acting like a two year old, there's the door, use it!" She could swear she could hear several people laughing now. "I mean I couldn't say that...but damn I wanted to..you can see why I left....that and the tons of people that kept suggesting I was a teenager....sure fine whatever makes you happy..." Ingram shakes her head. "Wish I had that problem, what I wouldn't give to be a teen again.." Sara just shivers at the idea. "Never again, never get blinding drunk on a toy boat with your friends. Of course or version of 'I'm on a Boat' is still talked about...probably, the hell if I know I just remember walking up with a pair of boxers of my head." Poor Ingram was laughing so hard, tears were streaking down her face.

"Oh my gosh, I've done stupid things, but you win.." Poor Maxson just stood there trying to figure this all out. He had to cough to get them to stop and the woman quickly goes back to work. "But really, having an extra pair of hands would be great, hint hint." Maxson rolls his eyes as he shows their new member where she would be sleeping. He even gave her a Brotherhood outfit to change into. Of course he made sure to point out the restroom and what not, so she knew where she could get changed. "It's an impressive ship..you got everything you need.." She was still in a bit of awe in this place, and still trying not to go into full panic mode. Kind of hard when it was slowly creeping up on her. She takes a deep breath before she turns to him. "Err...sorry..sir.." He rises his brow at this, why was she apologizing? "I know it sounds...silly, but...oh hell I have really bad anxiety at times...which I usually mask by...well blinding going into weird dialog half the time." Maxson knits his brows, is that what that was, an anxiety attack? He had to admit he'd never seen anyone handle it like that before. "It's fine solder, how you deal with anxiety well frankly that's a first...but what's making you so anxious?" He wanted to know what was going on, he didn't want her to be a problem he would have to deal with later. She takes a look around, where to even start, what would make since in his eyes? "Hell, everything...it's oh so....overwhelming..." She tightens her hold on her new outfit. This was real, it was all real, and she was stuck in here. No one would miss her, God it hit hard. "But I know...I've heard, what the Brotherhood stands for...to save people...right?" Maxson nods his head at this. "Of course, that's why we're here, to snuff out the Institute."

She feels her grip tighten. "Then why does it feel like I'm making a deal with the Devil himself. Not like I got anywhere else to go..." She takes in a deep breath. "Then I'm in." His eyes seem to light up at this. "Good, welcome aboard, for now, I'm ranking you as an Initiate. We'll see how this plays out, do well, and I'll conciser making you a Knight. Until then, get some rest, Ad Victoriam." He gives her the Brotherhood salute. Placing his fist on his chest. Takes her a minute to return the jester. "Ad Victoriam sir.." He nods and turns, leaving her alone with her thoughts as she slowly sits herself down on the bed. She hears the metal squeak under her, oh this was going to be fun. She sighs as she rubs the side of her head, just listening to the common noise this place was known for. Always working, there was always something to do. She forces her eyes closed for a bit, but opening them didn't change anything. The reality of what was going on, was slowly sinking in. She was stuck here, but why? Just how was this all going to play out? Nothing about this made any sense. Deep down she wasn't a fighter, hell where she was from she never even fired a gun, let alone ever touched one. She did have one hell of a collection of swords however. She removes the old shirt she had on, and her eyes go wide. "Oh crap, her tattoos." Right along her right arm was a beautiful tattoo of the Silent Princess flower from Breath of the Wild. The minute she saw the artwork, she had to get it. She hears a small whistle next to her, another female Knight looking at the artwork herself. "Now that's new...where did you get it?" Sara blushes deeply as she quickly places her shirt back on. "Long story, boy it's warm in here.." She bolts as she makes her way to the bathroom to change in peace.

This place was going to be the death of her. Mostly if they saw the piece on her back. She just HAD to get the Master Sword...as well as the Tri-Force. She bangs her head on the wall, being a nerd had it's downfalls. Dressed in her new uniform, she felt rather, snug inside of it. She was enjoying the feel of it, she could so sleep in this thing. She was far from tired, so she decides to go bother Ingram. She had to admit, getting to work with the woman, was amazing. Hard to believe the woman herself was stuck inside a suit of power armor after losing her legs. The first time she played the game she hadn't honestly noticed. For Ingram, this meant having someone around that could get places she couldn't and having extra hands was just a dream come true. Meanwhile Maxson took his place on the command deck, over looking the Commonwealth. He runs his hand through his hair, letting it all sink in. He really hoped things worked out. "Sir..." He turns to see his second in command, Captain Kells. "We just picked up a signal, it's Paladin Danse, seems he's found someone to join our ranks as well sir." Maxson rises his brows at this, okay, a bit strange, but he wasn't about to go question this stroke of good luck. "Finally, we'll gather all the new Initiates, it's time I made an announcement." Sara was given the news by a passing Knight to report to the command deck. After having to remember where that was she was joined with a few other people, as well as someone new. It takes her a minute for her brain to sort of catch up to what was going on. The Sole Survivor of Vault 111.

If she remembered right, the default name for the name for the male was Nate. And the man looked like he breathed military. From his crew cut blonde hair, to the neatly trimmed beard, he looked right at home. He joins in, as Maxson looks at all of them. "Brothers and Sisters, the road behind us has been long and fraught with difficulty. Each and every one of you has surpassed my expectations by rapidly facilitating our arrival in the Commonwealth. You have accomplished this amazing feat without a hint of purpose or direction, and most impressively, without question. Now that the ship is in position, it is the time to reveal our purpose and our mission. Beneath the Commonwealth, there is a cancer known as 'The Institute', a malignant growth that needs to be cut before it infects the surface. They are experimenting with dangerous technologies that could prove to be the world’s undoing for the second time in recent history. The Institute Scientists have created a weapon that transcends the destructive nature of the atom bomb. They call their creation the 'synth', a robotic abomination of technology that is free-thinking and masquerades as a human being. This notion that a machine can be granted free will is not only offensive, but horribly dangerous. And like the atom, if it isn’t harnessed properly, it has the potential of rendering us extinct as a species. I am not prepared to allow the Institute to continue this line of experimentation. Therefore, the Institute and their 'synths' are considered enemies of the Brotherhood of Steel, and should be dealt with swiftly and mercilessly. This campaign will be costly and many lives will be lost. But in the end, we will be saving humankind from its worst enemy...itself. Ad Victoriam!"

Everyone salutes and files out. Maxson keeps his eyes on the newest members of the Brotherhood. "Welcome aboard, Paladin Dance has given his full report about you, and that he's grant you the rank of knight." Nate just seems to shrug this off, still in his faded Vault suit. Poor guy must had just waken up, she did not envy the man, but she had to act like she didn't know a damn thing. "I picked up the signal when I was passing through, but Dance did tell me why the Brotherhood is here. I have my own reasons for going after them and...hope I can join..." Maxson seems to weigh this in. "Of course, Initiate, I want you to travel with..." Damn he hadn't remember the name on the file he had been given. "Nate...Nate Thomson." "Knight Thomson...you along with Dance are going to be shipped out..but first, I think Dance should show you around before I give out your orders...Paladin." The man himself enters, and holy hell, seeing someone like him up close, in power armor, she could swear she was blushing as she shakes her head. "Show our new member the ship." Dance nods as he looks at her, which made her jump. "And her sir?" "Already got the tour soldier, which reminds me, you should pick up some ammo before you head out, so you might as well go along." Sara nods at this as she slowly follows after the two of them. Still trying to not have that panic attack. Dance turns to her as they head into the main deck. "You must be new to the Brotherhood..given your rank." He sounded so, there were no words. But his tone was so deep. "Y-yes...they found me in the passed out in the airport base down below. Seems I made an impression for clearing out the Feral's myself.."

Danse turns as he looks down at her from his power armor. "You cleared out the entire base....yourself, armed with only that gun?" She feels her eyes go wide as she looks to the side. She always did that when she got nervous. "Um....y-yeah..." Danse watches her closely before nodding. "That's impressive." They make it to the back where Proctor Teagan was stuck in his tiny little room. She didn't have much for caps, but she was able to get a few boxes of ammo for her gun. Made sense to buy your equipment. Ammo was hard to come by in a place like this. Nate seems to get the idea before he turns to her, he had the most charming green eyes she had ever seen. "Well it's nice to know I'm not going to be the only new face around here." She gives him half smile. "Yeah, doesn't stop your legs from shaking though.." She liked talking to people, but past experiences hammered hard that people can be jerks. "Sorry, I...who said getting older made things easier right?" Nate lets out a good laugh as he nods. "Tell me about it, I'm only twenty-four and I feel like half the time I'm still back on the base, learning the basics." "Ah, so you are military, hair cut is a give away." He reaches up and chuckles. "Old habits die hard...your familiar with the military?" She looks up a bit. "My step brother....way back when, he was in the military back when I was still living out in New California." Nate's eyes seem to light up at this. "Really, that's where I was born." "Small world." She didn't miss the look on Danse's face as he listened to the both of them. "Do you remember what branch...?" She shakes her head. "Oh gosh no..I never did get close to...the other half of my so called 'family'." Not that she was missing out, they had been the worse people she had ever met in her entire life.

Nate nods at her, he could relate. "I know that feeling.." Dance leads him to a small area where he could put his things and rest when he needed to. It wasn't much, but it was safe. Sara herself wasn't a huge fan on how open everything was, but she couldn't complain. "I never got your name.." Nate tilts his head at her as she blushes. "Sara, it's nice to met you." Nate shakes her hand as she chuckles a bit. "I get the feeling our time here will be mostly people using our last names..." Nate shrugs at this. "I think I'm fine with that, as long as I don't hear a mister before it..." "Makes it seem like your in trouble doesn't it?" Nate shakes his head. "No when someone uses your full name...." Sara nods at this. "Ahh...yes, the dreaded full name trouble...did that a few times myself back in the day. It was always worth it." Dance hadn't said much about their banter, but they oddly seemed to understand one another rather quickly. Hell he just met the guy and he was more then impressed. They make it back to Maxson as he keeps his arms behind his back. Nate was set on joining, anything to help him into the Institute, and get his son back. However there was something they needed to do first. "I know how much you want to take the fight to the Institute, but before we do anything, we need to take back Fort Strong. The place is overrun with Super Mutants but inside is an arsenal we need for the upcoming war." He keeps his eyes on the three of them. "The two of you will be given your own set of power armor, you'll set out tomorrow after you get some rest, I imagine you all can use it.." Nate nods at this, feeling more drained now then before.

Maxson dismisses them and Danse and Nate wonder off to go get some much needed sleep. But Sara felt routed. Looking at the armor was one thing, putting it on however. "Sir..um...if I may?" Maxson nods his head to her. "Something wrong?" "I...never used power armor before." Which was true, in the game it was a walk in the park, but this was no game. "Hell to be honest...just the idea of being in something that...tight..." Oh God, she did not do well in tight spaces. Claustrophobia was a d**k. "Sorry..." He shakes his head at this, seeming to understand. "It can be over whelming at first. Just think of it as a suit of armor, really that's all it is.." "Yeah that carries a tiny exploitable core inside..." Maxson walks up to her and to her surprise he places his hand on her shoulder. "Consider this as a training exercise, I trust you'll preform well for us soldier.." The whole thing made her face go red, but she nods. "Yes sir...thank you..I'll see you tomorrow then..." She hides her face as she turns to retreat. Maxson just rises his brow at this, but shakes it off. Sure she was a bit, odd, but there was something, different? He wasn't sure what to think just yet, but having her with them, as well as someone else that had military background. He felt like he just hit the jackpot, there was no way he was going to let this slide through his fingers after everything they had gone through. He turns and heads for his own room for the night. Even the leader of the Brotherhood needed sleep at times. He closes his door as he shrugs off his battle coat. He lets out a low sigh as he lays out on his bed, letting the darkness drag him in as he falls into a deep sleep.
