"I can't stop thinking about it!" Exclaimed Yilanti. She was pacing up and down in the living room, while the tv repeated its report on the death of the wealthiest man on Gaia.
"Woman, you're driving me crazy. Stop that."
Tome wasn't happy. Someone had murdered Johnny Gambino and now everyone was looking for the mastermind behind it all. And it wasn’t him. He fumed on top of the couch where he had settled his feline body on. He knew it was his own fault for not acting sooner – there were plenty of opportunities. But he wanted things absolutely risk-free. And now had to face the fact that someone might take over the world before he gets the chance.
‘Maybe I should kill him after he takes over?’ He pondered. The couch moved as a new weight sat next to him.
“Hey Tome.” Melba said, drinking her glass of milk and wondering when her mom would stop freaking out. Tome looked at her.
“Why is mom upset?”
“Well, the richest man in the world got killed by a professional assassin. And she’s most likely worried that a certain bank lady will get fired over this.”
“Oh, you mean Meredith?” It wasn’t unknown to Melba that her mother liked this lady very much – sometimes she wouldn’t stop talking about her.
“Indeed. You’d think she’d worry about the economy or safety, but no.” Tome sighed. Melba laughed.
“Okay, okay, I’m calm.” Yilanti made a pseudo-yoga expression and sat down to her daughter who promptly hugged her arm.
“Mom, did you remember to send in your prom dress design to your company?”
“Yes, yes, thank you for reminding me. So Tome, what do we do now?”
Tome stretched. “I guess we have no choice but to wait. We could hunt down the assassin, but that wouldn’t get us anywhere. We need to find out who’s behind all of this.”
He jumped off of the couch and strolled to the door. “I’m going to look for clues and see what I can discover.”
“Wait, why would we care? Isn’t it most likely this big new guy will be shot down by others?” Yilanti asked.
“If he’s good, he’ll stay alive. Thing is, I want to know if he’s going to be a nuisance or something useful.”
“You already know it’s a he?”
“I’ve received information from my inside with Santa’s elves that Santa, Jack and the Easter Bunny all went into hiding from a “He”. When Gambino died I drew the conclusion that this He is behind all of this as well.”
“I keep forgetting how many spies you have Tome.” Yilanti leaned back on the couch sighing. “So what do I do?”
“For now, just go on with life. But keep an eye out.” And with that, Tome went through the catflap and disappeared from sight.
“Think we’ll be okay mom?” Melba asked, peering at the tv, her milk forgotten on the table.
“Of course. In fact, I won’t be surprised if we’re in for an interesting adventure.”
“Ooooh, can I come? Please, please?”
Yilanti thought about it for a second. “Only if it’s safe. But otherwise I’ll make sure you can get a good view.”
“Yay!”
Tome peered at the mountains in the distance. This was going to be quite a walk without his right hand to drive him to places. But for this, he had to go alone. He knew the information he could receive would be worth it.
