My point of view, Section 2: Polytheism and the Bible... |

Okay, so for a while now, I have been noticing more and more people around the M&R trying to justify polytheism using the Bible. Now, at the first argument I witnessed, I thought, "hey, isn't it just kind of common sense that polytheism is against the Bible," apparently I was wrong. Some people actually will try to go to great extents to justify polytheism. Well, I shouldn't say great extents... they mostly just use one passage, "Thou shall not have any gods before me." I shall now try to disprove this common "purposful" misconception using a variety of points.
1)This passage was in the old testament, and part of the ten commandments. Since then, most of the old testament, especially the law of moses, has been abolished by the new testament; and since we all know that in Luke 10:27 it says, "Love the Lord your God(speaking about the Judeo-christian God) with all your heart, and all your soul, and all your strength, and all your mind," Doesn't it kind of make sense that you could not love another god if you really were loving God with all your being?
2)God has repeatedly punished groups of people or individuals of practicing polytheism. Like the Israelites, King Solomon, etc. You cannot logically say, after seeing the punishments, that God just gave a command to obey him first, and then you can follow any god you want. Polytheism wasn't acceptable for the other people that tried it, why should it be acceptable now?
3)The Bible says that God is a jealous God, and even refers to the church as his bride. If I were jealous, and I had a bride, I would not want her to go sleep around with whatever person she likes, now would I?
This is still a work in progress... I shall be adding more later. For right now, however, comments would be appreciated. You can even try to debate me here if you'd like.
