the last one standing.
thats what they said. that's what made me wish that war had never come, thats peace has always been. but like everything else wishes dont come true. not for anyone. wishes weren't there when my childhood house burnt down, or when my mother died from cancer, or when my first wife left me.
like that old saying "wishes are for those who cant dream." i never was much of a dreamer either. all the dreams i had were when i slept and those were of happiness and laughter. now i dont sleep, and all i can think about is hatred and sorrow.
and now im here, standing behind this demolished elementery school building waiting for the enemy to take whatever was left of my dignity. i look down at the body that lay at my feet. i remember how it got there. i remember i was standing by this wall scared out of my head. i decided to take a quick drink from my container of whiskey to help calm my nerves. then he came, from around the corner he did. as scared as i was, i swung my gun around and shot his in the face. with blood gushing down his deformed head, he fell into his own puddle of death.
as i watched him die, it hit me. where was i? i looked around but everywhere i looked there were decade bodies. the bodies of the enemy and one of our own. i was surrounded by death and it was comming for me. i tried to hide my face from them to see if that my help calm me down but my heart was beating so hard now i felt it would burst through my chest.
a strong hand gripped me by behind. i was about to scream but another was smacked across my mouth. i know what had happened, i was caught. trapped. they would take me back to there base and torture me until i told them where our group was located.
i scrambled to get free from the man's grip. once i did i leaped to get my rifle. i spun around and looked into the eyes of-
