Chapter 2: Getting to Know Eachother
..... Tendal had his new roommate follow him upstairs. When they entered his apartment he showed her to her room. She emptied her pockets onto the drawers. She brought nothing with her. Luckily Tendal put on the flyer that the room was already furnished.
..... “So you brought nothing with you? What are you going to do about clothes?” Tendal asked.
..... “I’ll go buy a bunch of new ones soon enough.” She aid smiling.
..... “How can you afford to do that?”
.....“I get paid more than enough. I get a lot of bonuses from my boss. I’m good at my work and it helps that she is a good friend of mine.”
..... “Oh…” Tendal said. “Well if you want to take a shower I can let you borrow some of my tighter clothes.”
..... “Sure. That’d be great.”
..... After showing her around the bathroom and giving her own toiletries, Tendal sat in the living room. In about ten minutes the water stopped.
..... “Ummm. Tendal?” She called out. “You didn’t give me any clothes.”
..... “Oh. Sorry. I’ll go get some.”
Tendal got a new pair of boxers, a pair of sweatpants he was growing too big for, and a loose t-shirt. He handed them to her through a small opening in the door way. He went into the living room and waited for her.
.....In a few minutes she came out of the bathroom and sat down on the couch. “Thanks for the clothes.” She said. “It feels so good to take a shower without being bothered. I usually only got to take showers at the campus grounds, but now I get to go do field work.” Her hair was still a little wet as she was brushing it.
.....“What exactly do you do? If you don’t mind my asking that us.”
.....“I’d rather not talk about it.”
.....“Yea, I understand. Work sucks. I’m a teacher. But because I’m so young the kids usually think they can pal around with me.”
.....“How old are you? You look too young to be a teacher.”
.....“I’m twenty-two. Thanks.”
.....“How could you be a teacher?”
.....“There were special circumstances. Ones I’d rather not talk about. Just a lot of crazy things.”
.....“I deal with crazy things everyday. A little hint as to my occupation, I deal with paranormal stuff. Kinda.”
.....“Kinda? That doesn’t give me a good idea at all.”
.....“I know, but that’s all I can tell you.” She shrugged. “Working on some pretty big secret projects.”
.....“Special projects. I remember when they asked me to take one of my two free periods and take part in a ‘special project.’ Now I’m also teaching a Sex Ed to a class.”
.....“What do you usually teach?”
.....“History. There are five periods a day. I only had three classes. Two 8th grades and one 7th. Now I teach one 8th grade class about safe sex.”
.....“You must feel really uncomfortable. Since you haven’t even had sex yourself.”
.....Tendal jumped up. “Why do you assume that?”
.....She laughed. “I didn’t, but you just practically answered the question, ‘have you ever had sex?’ Also, you just let a girl borrow your clothes and you don’t live with a girlfriend. It’s safe to assume it.”
.....Tendal pointed his finger at her without anything to say. “Didn’t your mother ever tell you it’s impolite to stare and point?” She asked. Tendal’s jaw dropped. "Calm down. I was just kidding around."
....."Please don't joke like that. I don't find it funny." Tendal said seriously.
....."Mr. Tendal," She said.
.....Tendal interupted her. "Don't call me mister, please."
....."Fine then. Tendal, do you even know my name?" She asked him.
....."Uhhh. Actually I don't."
....."So you let some random woman whos name you don't know come into your house because she gave you money?"
....."Well you're going to be my new roommate. What does it matter?"
....."You should have still found out my name at least before you allowed me to come in."
....."Well then what is your name?"
....."So now you want to know..."
....."Just tell me."
....."I'm Kayly Summers. Nice to meet you."
....."Nice to meet you too." Tendal and Kayly just sat there. "Well I have some rules." Tendal said.
....."Are you serious? I hate rules. Please tell me you're joking."
....."I'm not joking. I have just a few rules. First, don't go into my room when I'm not home. Second, No smoking or using illegal drugs. Alcohol is fine. Lastly, No walking around naked or in underwear."
....."I only have a problem with one of those rules. The third one. I like to be free." Kayly said.
....."Well too bad."
....."I think we are going to be great friends."
....."To me that doesn't seem very likely." Tendal said
