I awaken to the soft tapping of the rain on my makeshift roof. As I lay there in the dark, listening to the rain, I remember why I am all alone. My name is Sokein Zakara, and this is my story, a story of loneliness, pain, and vengeance. This is the story of The Forsaken.
When I was very young, my village was destroyed by traveling raiders, they destroyed everything I had loved or cared for. The only survivors were myself, and two others. Ryuka Tensa and Avalon Daar, two children that were the same age as I was. Realizing that we were alone in the world, we set off together, to where, we did not know. All we knew was that whoever did this must pay for what they had done. We would make sure of that.
As we roamed the plains of Tebaklin, we trained and honed our survival and combat skills so that we would be prepared for the battle we had been waiting for since that horrid day. Ryuka was the fastest and stealthiest of our trio, Avalon was the strongest, but always made rash decisions. I was the leader, I was not stronger or quicker than them, but I had a knack for strategies, but I was no pushover either. After roaming for two years, we finally decided to start earning a living. We did not know much other than combat, but, to become a Hunter that is all you need to know.
Two more years had passed since we became full fledged hunters, and we grew stronger by the day. There was not a man in the army who would dare taunt us, and those that did, became examples. We were a force to be reckoned with, and then we received letters about joining the Black Templars. The Templars were an elite fighting group that was ungoverned. They were the underground army; they solved more problems that the Royal Guard. We saw this as an opportunity to right the wrong that had been dealt to us so long ago.
At the stroke of midnight, we left our home, and went to the meeting place they had hinted at in the letters. When we arrived, three cloaked figures leaped from the shadows and began to rush us. We thought there might be a test, so we came prepared. Ryuka grabbed her daggers and lept after the slowest one. Avalon unsheathed his Great Sword and rushed at the medium sized thug. Leaving me to the small, yet very quick woman with a rapier. I did not see a reason to spill blood this night, so I quickly dodged her strike, spun on my heel, and delivered a quick, firm jab into her solar plexus. She crumpled to the ground in a heap, trying to catch her breath. I told my companions to allow them to live, but not to lose. In a matter of minutes the fight was over, and the three attackers were on the floor, struggling for breath. Then, some unknown force pulled us to our knees. As I looked up, I saw a sight I thought I would never see, the Emperor!
I would explain to you who this man, if he can be called that, was but no one truly knows his origins. All we knew is that he was the leader of the Black Templars. He told us, in a deep, booming voice, “So, you have passed our test. Now I must ask you, why is it that you accepted our invitation here tonight?” After recollecting her thoughts, Ryuka said “We are here to avenge a wrong that was dealt years ago, the Royal Guard did nothing to prevent, or even help us when we were in need. Because of their incompetence, we lost our family, our homes, and everything that was dear to us. That is why we are here, to become stronger and avenge what is wrong in this world!” Avalon and I agreed, and saw the look of surprise in the Emperor’s eyes. “Your cause is noble indeed” he responded “Rise, and take your place in the ranks of the Black Templars! You will receive notification on the location of our training grounds in the next few days. Prepare well, for you will not return here for a very long time.”
