Chapter 2 - Two Hearts Connected By Fate
Zel parked the car into the garage. He lead Adrian inside of the house as he began to show him around. The living room was large with finished cherry wood floors and walls. There was a black leather cough in the room as well as a flat screen television set tucked into a remote controlled case. Giant glass windows showed the view of the water below the cliff the house stood on. In the far right corner of the room was a desk with a small light covered with photography magazines.
The kitchen was quite large as they passed through it, showing him the dinning room with the expandable table. They walked down a hall as a window at the end viewed trees. At the far end room on the right was the master bedroom. A king size bed with black covers rested in the middle against the wall. One large window stretched across the room. A small television lay on the wall. A room lead to the large private bathroom. A dresser with a mirror sat on the side wall as Adrian walked up to it as he looked at it with curiosity.
His hand touched the glass as he felt the cold surface. He was surprised to see no ripples in the water like reflection. Zel laughed lightly as Adrian went to touch it again. “It’s not water, but you know what a reflection is which is good. Man, you don’t understand what I’m saying here… Lets see…” He opened the top left drawer as he pulled out a small jewelry boy. He took his car keys as he separated a smaller one and unlocked the chest. It began to play a soft melody. Zel closed his eyes as he smiled.
“~ Let the river lands flow, right beneath my heart ~ Let the sky mend, the fragments torn apart ~ Hear my prayers that I sing, up onto the sky ~ Heal my broken heart, so I may one day fly ~” He smiled as he opened his eyes, reaching in and holding up a pendent. “My grandmother use to sing that song to me as a child. When she died, she gave me this box along with this necklace. She told that it would connect my heart with whoever wore it. Of course, she was just making up some story to go along with it. Still it made me feel safe…”
He took the necklace as he carefully place it around Adrian’s neck. A small jade arrowhead hung from a marble sized, green orb. The orb shifted different shades of green in the light. “… as I hope it will made you feel the same here.” A bright green aura wrapped around both of them in a quick second as Zel seemed confused as to what just happened. He looked at Adrian as he smiled, a tear falling from his eye. “I’m sorry…” Zel said, assuming he had offended the boy.
“Thank you…” Adrian said as Zel froze. The words were English. There was no way Adrian had learned these words, ones Zel hadn’t even mentioned in front of Adrian, in the span of an hour. Could it be the necklace? Was there an actual power, one that connected their hearts, that made Zel understand him? Questions filled his head as the boy didn’t seem to notice the words he spoke. Then it must be Zel, or the necklace specifically, that translated the words to him.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
When the loud thing turned off, they were in a darkish place. Adrian wondered where they were and what was all this? When Xander helped him out and lead him into the place he looked in awe. It was so bright and homey. Was this Xander’s home? Was this were he lived? He fallowed him around as he showed him each of the rooms of the home. This he new of. This looked like something he lived in. only different. But the concept was still there. He took in everything and wanted to know what everything was. So much stuff he didn’t know he wanted to learn, but he calmed himself and continued walking around with him. Everything had that relaxing feeling. Much like his own home. It was nice and much better then being where he was before.
Seeing the master bedroom his eyes widened again and he took in how the room looked. So many dark colors but it went well with how the room was brightened. It was amazing. Adrian noticed the mirror and blinked some wondering what it was. He went to it and touched it curiously. When he touched it, it was cold and wasn’t like water. He moved his hand back looking confused. How could something make a refection with no water? He went to touch it again and when he did the same thing happened. He then heard laughter and looked at Xander. He was trying to explain, but he didn’t understand. He hated not understanding anything. He didn’t like not knowing what things were around him.
Adrian watched as the other pulled out a small box and looked confused. He watched as he used another one of those shiny things to open it. Then beautiful music came from it and he smiled brightly. It sounded so loving and sweet. He closed his eyes for a bit as he listened to it. When he heard Xander speak he opened his eyes again and then watched as he pulled out a necklace. He noticed a green arrowhead; yes he knew what those were, and a darker green orb above it. He smiled as he looked at it. The necklace was pretty. It was simple, but sometimes the most beautiful things were simple and elegant. It was way he didn’t dress him self up in jewel and gold and silver like his siblings and parents. He wasn’t into that.
Though Adrian looked confused as Xander moved to him and placed it around his neck. Was he giving this to him? But why? It was important to him. He started to smile as he thought about it. No one ever gave him such a meaningful gift before. He looked at it and a small tear fell from his eye. It felt special and wonderful. Did Xander actually care about him? Did he actually want to see him safe? This made him happy and he couldn’t just stay quiet he had to say something and hope that Xander understood.
When Xander pulled away Adrian smiled more and spoke, “Thank you” He hoped that Xander got the hint of what he was trying to say. He then noticed how the other was and blinked. He did he not understand? Or did something happen he didn’t notice? Or maybe did he understand him in another way and it scared him? He looked at the necklace and blinked some. As he thought he noticed a weird feeling when it was put on him. But could that have been just because he was happy? Or something else? He decided to test something to see if something did in fact happen. He looked back at Xander and blinked, “can you understand me?” he asked. When Xander looked shocked again and nodded he looked shocked as well. He was speaking in his language there was no way in hell Xander learned how to speak his language that fast! He only spoke it twice. He then wondered if he could now understand Xander? What was going on?
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Zel walked back into the bedroom as Adrian sat at the edge. He handed him a cold tall glass of water. The boy quickly chugged it down. “So I guess my grandmother wasn’t full of it, the necklace did have some sort of powers.” He looked at the palm of his right hand, the lines forming a misshaped pentagram. “I wonder what else she told me was true… I can’t be bothered with this right now anyways. I’m going to take a shower. Feel free to fiddle with anything in the house. Except for the kitchen.” The boy looked at him with curiosity.
“Shower?” Zel sighed.
“I keep forgetting your new to all of this. A shower is a rainfall of water that’s meant to clean off your body. This…” He placed the remote in the boys hand. “…is a remote to the television. It will show moving pictures that are meant to entertain you.” He stood up as he stretched. The boy seemed scared to be left alone. “I’ll only be in this room here. Give me about 15-20 minutes.” The boy nodded as Zel smiled. “See you in a bit then.” He walked into the room as he stripped and hopped in the shower.
The water began to run as Adrian recognized the sound. It was like a small waterfall or heavy rain. It reminded him so much of home. Home. The one place he missed the most. This world was so different and as long as he was stuck on it, he might as well find out as much about it as he can. Starting with this weird remote thing.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Adrian sat on the edge of the Bed and kicked his legs. When Zel; as he been told to call the other, came in with a glass of water. As soon as he got it he chugged it back. He didn’t know he was so parched till now. He then listened to Zel and blinked. He was also wondering what the others grandma forgot to tell him too. All this was sill freaky for him. He wasn’t use to any of this nor did he know this kind of magic. Though when he heard the other say shower, he looked at him curiously. What the hell was a shower?
When Zel explained he nodded and then watched as something called a remote was put in his hand. When Zel explained Adrian nodded again and then watched as the other left. So this controlled a television? And that was something with moving pictures? Interesting. He blinked and looked at all the buttons. Ok so how did this thing work? He didn’t tell him that! All he told him was that it was a remote. He didn’t say how it worked. Don’t you think you should let someone know this when they don’t know what it does? Duh!
Adrian stopped when he heard the sound of running water. He frowned and bit his lip. It sounded like home. The water falls in this nice place they went to, to have fun. He suddenly was missing home again. He wanted to go home but he didn’t know how long he was here for. How long would he be stuck here for? If he was going to be here a while he might as well learn all there was about this place. He would make the best of it and learn about the humans. So he knew better how to understand them.
looking down at the remote, Adrian started to examine it. So it was black, hard, weird feeling, and had many buttons on it. Ok that was a start. But how did this turn on the television? He saw the red button and pressed it. He then jumped when something turned on and he began hearing voices. He managed to get it to worked, he did turn it on. Ok so now to figure out the other buttons.
Adrian noticed an arrow button pointing up as he pressed it. He noticed the sound continued to get louder until it was too much and he winced, covering his ears. He grabbed the remote again and looked for away to turn it down quickly. He saw the down button and pressed it as it went down he sighed. Soon he heard nothing and only saw the pictures moving. He blinked and pushed the up button only instead of holding it down, he picked his finger up slowly letting it slowly go up until it was at a level he was ok with. Ok so that’s what those buttons do. So much to figure out…
Noticing another set of up and down buttons, Adrian pressed the up button like he did the others as he noticed the picture changing. He blinked and tilted his head some. He did it again and smiled brightly. So this changed the picture! Interesting, very interesting. So the down button must move the picture back. Interesting. For now that was all he was going to play with. He didn’t want to mess with anything and brake it. He pushed the up button until he saw something that caught his eye. He blushed bright red and his eyes went wide as he watched two people; male and female, moving in a bed with no clothes and were moaning. What the hell?! He wiggled and blushed more. Ok no let’s not watch this! He clicked up again and sighed as the picture changed, his face still red.
As Adrian continued to look for something to watch, not really knowing what to look for, he stopped when he saw something else and tilted his head. Suddenly the music went creepy and he blinked. Someone with a chainsaw came out and began hacked someone up, he let out a scream and dropped the remote before diving his head under the pillows on the bed. He could hear the screams and everything and he began shaking and crying. No he didn’t like this thing! He didn’t like the television! Not at all! He wanted it off. He closed his eyes and plugged his ears so he couldn’t hear the thing anymore.
Soon the television was off and Adrian looked to see Zel standing in just a towel and holding the remote. He blinked and moved from under and sniffled. He frowned and fiddled with the bottom of the jacket, “I don’t think I like this television thing…” He admitted and wiped his eyes. Now that the scary thing was off he was happy again. He looked at Zel and blinked, “Sorry if I interrupted your shower.” He said biting his lip and fiddling more with the jacket.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Zel smiled as he rubbed Adrian’s head. He put on the television as he changed it to a music station. It was light jazz that began to play. “Better?” He asked with a smile. The music filled the room as Zel went over to the dresser. “Don’t worry about the shower, I didn’t mean to take long anyways.” He pulled out a set of clothes as he moved back into the washroom. He came out a minute later with a new outfit on.
He wore a black pair of jeans with white scruff marks on the knees. A black t-shirt with three buttons at the top, unbuttoned, rested over a white t-shirt with the ends of the sleeves showing. On his left hand pinky was a silver ring in the shape of water looping over itself. On his right hand finger next to his pinky was a silver ring with an engraved symbol representing a royal crest.
His hair was shaggy and had split ends showing due to it still being somewhat wet. “So I guess I should hold on to the remote from now on.” He teased as he smiled. His breath carried the smell of mint. He looked at the boy, still a bit red in the face. “Are you hungry?” The boy didn’t seem to know if he was or wasn’t due to too much excitement for one day. He brought him into the kitchen as he looked through the freezer.
“How about some fish?” He looked at the boy who seemed frightened by the idea. He closed the freezer as he grabbed his wallet. “Better idea, how about we go out to eat.” He grabbed the car keys as he smiled. “I promise no speeding this time.” He shot him a wink as he headed for the door ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Adrian blinked when his head was rubbed, but smiled as he watched him. When the television was changed to music he nodded and watched him walk back in the other room. He relaxed and moved some to the music. When Zel came out again he was dressed differently. He looked confused some but shrugged it off. He didn’t think humans would wear the same thing all the time but how did they clean the old outfit? He’ll ask later. He wasn’t in the mood to find out more stuff then he had to. His head was already spinning with so much stuff happening today.
When Zel said he was holding into the remote, Adrian nodded and smelled something pleasant after he did. It smelled nice. Like a cooling smell. He was then asked if he was hungry and thought. Was he? With all that was happening he didn’t know if he was or not. So he just fallowed Zel to the kitchen and looked around again at the different and interesting things in the house. What was a lot of this stuff? What did the outside look like? How were the lights on? Again so many questions and not enough answers and right now he didn’t care. He right now was paying attention to the things around him.
When he felt something chilly, Adrian looked to see Zel in a weird box that was cold. He shivered and watched. When Zel looked at him and he asked him about fish, he looked scared and backed away. Human’s ate fish! Well that was a bit scary….were they a form of shark? Only they lived on land? Cuz sharks at fish. So much he had to learn about this world and humans. Oi this will be a long while. Maybe he could weasel Zel into being fish friendly. Yes that was a good plan. Get people to not eat fish.
Hearing the words ‘go out to eat’ Adrian blinked and looked at him. He nodded and sighed in relief he wasn’t going to speed. Though the wink made him blush and look confused. As Zel moved to the door he took in what he wore and then looked himself over. He was dirty and had a lot of cuts with dry blood crusted over. He was also in shorts to big for him and a jacket. Shouldn’t he clean up as well? Cause personally, he wanted to get clean as well and get the blood and dirt off him.
Zel seemed to notice this finally and said something before smiling. He lead him back to the room and then to the bathroom. Adrian took in the bathroom and blinked some. So what was all this? He looked to the small area that looked wet and that must be where you shower. So what was the other things? He heard water running and jumped. He then suddenly remembered something. He get wet he grow tail. When Zel looked at him and tried to explain he shook his head, “ahhh…” he wasn’t going to say he was scared of water but he was scared to tell him the truth.
Zel looked confused and Adrian thought some more. He was being so nice and taken care of him. He even gave him a magic necklace. Maybe he could trust him. He sighed and looked at him, “I get wet I change?” When Zel looked more confused he went to the part were water came out and stopped it. When it stopped he saw a plug and plugged the tub. He then returned on the water. Might as well show him. Good thing he paid attention. When the tub got nice and good he stopped it and looked at Zel, “watch” with that said he stepped in carefully and sat down. Soon light swirled around his legs and you could see his legs changing to a beautiful amethyst color tail. When the light faded there was the tail and the boy Zel thought he helped, was really a merboy.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Zel blinked as he watched the legs of the boy turn in to tail. It splashed light in the tub as Zel closed his eyes. He took this all in. His hand reached near the tub as he stopped. “Can… can I feel it?” Adrian nodded with a bit of a blush as Zel moved his hand closer. He lightly stroked the tail.
“This… This is awesome! I’ve never seen anything like this! This also explains a lot, I mean a LOT of things about you. Not in a bad way of course.” He rambled on as he smiled. He stood up from his spot. “I guess I’ll let you get cleaned up then. Let me know if you need my help or anything. I’ll go get you a town and see if I can find you a new outfit.” And with that, Zel left with the door left open a crack.
A knock came from the door as Adrian heard this. He had spent more time that he wanted to in the tub. It wasn’t until his stomach began to roar that he figured he should finish up. Zel knocked lightly as he opened the door. “I got a gift for you.” He placed a brown paper shopping bag on the counter. “I had my friend go out and pick up some clothes for you. Enjoy.” He said as he smiled.
Zel moved into the kitchen as the knife chopped hard on the board. He sliced a piece of lemon off as he placed it on the edge of a tall glass of ice tea he had made himself for Adrian to try before they headed out. He began thinking of more things he could make for him that he may enjoy as he waited for him to come out of the bathroom.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Arian took in how Zel acted and blinked some. When he reached and then stopped he blinked more. Though it made since when he asked if he could feel his tail. He blushed some and nodded a small smile showed. He watched as Zel moved to the tub and run his hand along his tail. He then wanted to laugh at what he said but didn’t. He nodded and smiled some at his comment about this explaining a lot. That it did. He heard him say he’ll let him clean up and nodded again, “thank you” When he left he leaned back and relaxed some enjoying the warm water. This felt nice and reminded him of home. So at least he didn’t have to be completely human. He could be his true form every now and then. This made him happy.
The knock on the door woke him up with a start. He must have dozed off and he then heard his stomach growl loudly in protest of not having anything in his stomach; ok he was hungry. When Zel walked in, Adrian looked at him and saw the bag. For him? He got his own clothes? He smiled as well and nodded, “thank you again” he told him and when Zel left again, he saw the soap and the wash cloth and after a guess he scrubbed himself clean and then rinsed off. Once that was all done he drained the tub and then tried and figured out how to get out of the tub. But he did and then dried off his tail and himself. Soon he was his human self once more.
Now to check out those clothes. Adrian went to the bag and opened it before checking out what was in it. He first pulled out a black short sleeve shirt with a basic white start on the front. This made him smile and he slipped it on like he was shown. Next on the list was a pair of baggie gray cargo pants. He slipped them on like he had learned with the shorts and looked at him self in the mirror. He had to admit it looked nice though he had to wonder what else was in the bag. He bug around and saw a jacket with a hood on the back. It was black as well and on the back it had a red heart with wings. It was nice. He slipped it on but then noticed it was warm so he took it off again. Adrian took one more look at himself in the mirror and then walked out of the room and into the kitchen were Zel was. He showed off his outfit and smiled brightly, “thank you again. All if it feels good.” he told him and smiled more. He saw the coup with a little yellow thing on it and pointed, “what’s that?” he asked. When Zel explained he smiled and took it. It smelled sweet and it didn’t look bad. He took a sip and his eyes lit up. Oh this was good! He chugged it down and then picked up the little yellow thing. He popped it in his mouth and his face crunched up and he spit it out, “ew, ew, ew ,ew!” he said still making the face as he wiped his tongue off. This was making Zel laugh and he explained what that was. Ok so lemons are yucky good to know. When it was time to go Adrian fallowed Zel do the door and Zel showed him a pair of black slip on shoes with green souls. He explained how they go on and where they went on. Adrian nodded and slipped them on wrinkling his nose. Ok this felt weird but he lived with it for now. They went back to the car; Zel finally explained what it was, and he got in and buckled up. He was still nervous about this thing, but Zel promised that he wasn’t going to drive so bad like that time. He nodded and when the car was on he jumped but relaxed soon and off they went to where ever they were going.
