“I know I’ve been cautious around you lately…but you don’t necessarily understand why.” He said randomly, causing Luci to look at him oddly. It was as if he had been reading her mind for the pass day. “That’s only because you don’t know what’s to come…” he added, causing her to stare even more.
“What do you mean, ‘to come’? Did you see the future or something?” she asked, not entirely believing what he had said. He looked at her and realized that she had taken it the wrong way, causing him to shake his head.
“There’s a prophecy, stating your fate…as well as the rest of the worlds.” he replied, causing Luci to stare at him in awe. How did he know what would happen to the Earth? And what exactly did she have to do with it? So many new questions ran through her head, the ones that she had thought about earlier that day seemed to vanish. Once Steph noticed her confused state, he realized that she was fully thinking about what he had said. “Years and years and years ago, your ancestors were a major part of a war that took place in what we know today as Japan. The cause seems to be something about one group of people wanting to abolish a law about demons and such whereas the rest of the population wanted the demons to remain in what we know as China but they called the foreign waste-lands. Are you with me so far?” he asked to make sure she was keeping track. Luci stared at him, her confused state becoming worse and worse by the second. But, to show that she was still sane, she nodded and allowed him to continue.
“The two groups fought in a war that lasted for ten years. Your ancestors were a part of the group that wanted the demons that could co-exist with people to be allowed into the country. At the end of the war, though, the demons were still in the foreign lands and all the demons had been allowed to take part in the war were hung. One of your ancestors was a demon, hence the reason they chose that side. The day that Isabella Haven, your great, great, great, great, I think that was it, grandmother was hung, she vowed that one day, the power she obtained would come out and be used to attack all that opposed her.” He ended, looking at her for any comments or questions she might have. Luci looked at him as if he were insane then looked down at her lap. All of this information was coming from the silent, smart Steph who was best known for studying animals.
“How do you know all of this?” was the first and probably the most important question on her mind. She looked at him, hoping to receive a laugh that told her he was kidding about the entire thing, but instead received a serious look, telling her he had been telling the truth.
“My ancestors were followers of your grandmother. They vowed to protect her offspring and when the power was released, swore to stay on her side to the very end. When I found out you were one of her ancestors, I knew I’d have to keep a close eye on you. Now, the day that the power is to be unleashed, no one knows.” He answered, hoping that he wasn’t just speaking in some foreign language to her. Luci looked at him then slowly nodded, showing that she mostly understood what he was telling her. She looked at the ground, trying to think if there was anything else she really wanted to ask, mainly thinking if she could withstand any more information like this. After a few minutes of silence passed, Steph rose to his feet and held out a hand to help her up.
“C’mon. It’s really late. If we wait around here for too long, I think your parents might come down here and start thinking something’s up between us.” He suggested with a slight smile at his joke. She looked up at him and giggled softly before placing her hand in his and rising to her feet as well. She eased her bag onto her shoulder and followed him to the ladder. Being the gentleman that he was, Steph allowed her up the ladder first, flipped off the switch that turned the power flowing into the club room off, and followed closely behind her. As soon as they reached ground level, Luci felt his hand on her forehead and looked up at him. He was looking down at her with a concerned yet caring expression, causing her to look up at him in a bit of content.
“If anything happens…tell me. Don’t tell anyone else. If anyone finds out who you are, they’ll want to kill you on the spot. Knowing the power you posses, the opposing side will take any risk to win this fight.” He mumbled, careful not to be heard by anyone, if anyone, nearby. She looked up at him and nodded slowly, feeling his hand drop from her head and usher her forward. “I’ll see you tomorrow, alright?” he assured her as they reached the corner that separated their routes. She looked at him and slowly nodded. As her head moved, she could almost feel all of the thoughts that had formed move around her mind like dice. She began her way down the once busy road, feeling Steph’s eyes following her with every step she took. But, the further she got, the less and less did she think he was watching her. By the time she had to turn a corner, she turned to see that he had gone his way home. With a small sigh of relief, she continued on her way, thinking so much about all he had told her.
