"Uh...Steph?" she called to him as she walked over to him to make sure he was ok. From the distance she was at from him, it seemed as though he was asleep. But, as she neared him and got a better view of him, she soon realized he was just staring off into space. He had noticed her before she even spoke to her but didn't seem to show it until she was standing in front of him. He neared her and placed his hand on her forehead.
"Luci, you're burning up. Why'd you come to school?" he asked. Luci rolled her eyes and looked up at him. Being up to his shoulders wasn't helping her to appear any more intimidating.
"I can't really get away with just having a fever. Besides, I have two tests today." she protested. He looked at her warily and sighed as he regained his normal stance and began to walk to the school.
"If you start to feel sick...go home and get some rest..." he muttered to her as he passed. Luci stared after him as he vanished behind the school's gates. 'He...cares about me...' was the first thought that came to her mind as she slowly made her way towards the school, her head pointed down as she thought long and hard about what had happened that morning. She was still thinking through homeroom and first, then had to put her mind on pause during second when she had to take a test. Third came and went quickly, soon leading to lunch. She ate her lunch in solitude, staring out the window and munching on her turkey sandwich.
'Today is so...weird...' she thought. Ever since that morning, her mind had been thinking long and hard. As soon as lunch was over, the second half of the day took forever to get over with. She stared up at the clock at the end of seventh period, waiting for the final bell to chime. She wanted to ask Steph so many questions, as well as the scientific freak of the Pengy Society. Why had she had that dream? Why was Steph so concerned about her now?
As the list of questions she had seemed to pile up, the final bell chimed, causing the class to escape from their cells and flee the prison that had contained them. Luci, surprisingly, wasn't the first out of her class. It took her a minute to finally realize that the bell had actually gone off and half of the class had already left. She hurried out of the room and towards the stairs. With her mind on other things, she nearly tripped multiple times on her way down the stairs, causing her to hold onto the side rail for support. As she reached the ground level, her mind drew a blank when remembering the combination to her shoe locker. She fumbled around with the numbers until the correct combination finally came to her and nearly fell over when removing her shoes.
Once her outdoor shoes were firmly on her feet, she ran out of the building and towards the club house. Upon leaving the school grounds, she almost forgot where the club house was. Once she located the trap door, she nervously lifted it and crept down the ladder. As she reached the ground, the first person to notice and greet her was Steph. He placed his hand on her forehead once again and led her to a bean bag chair.
"You really need to stop being so active, Luci." he mumbled as he left to go sit in his usual corner. Luci looked over at Cassandra and Gaven, who were at work examining the same cat from yesterday. Her gaze turned to Keith who was eating a rather large lollipop, and Samantha, who was staring at her befuddled. She got up from her chair and plopped down into the bean bag chair next to her.
"What's up with you and Steph?" she whispered into her ear. All Luci could do was look at her and shrug.
"If I knew I would tell you." she replied in a low voice so the other members wouldn't hear. She leaned back on her bean bag and stared up at the ceiling. Samantha stared down at her then nodded as a reply and returned to her usual chair.
Now that Luci had time to think about the questions from before, the hardest part she came to was actually bringing them up. Gaven was too occupied with proving his theory at the moment and if she said anything to Steph, Samantha would be down her throat wanting to know every single detail. Plus, when it came to opening up to Steph, there usually wasn't any easy way. He was the one in the club who was quiet and kept to himself. How was she supposed to start a conversation with him, especially about him caring about her? With a silent sigh, she sank deeper into her chair and closed her eyes, trying to relax her mind for the moment.
