So I went to a wedding tonight. It was pretty fun. It reminded me of just how different my wedding was from most.
Doug and I got married on January 28, 2006 in the historical courthouse of Jackson County in Independence, Missouri.
It was raining that day. It's good luck to have rain on your wedding day.
May the blessing of the rain be on you—
the soft sweet rain.
May it fall upon your spirit
so that all the little flowers may spring up,
and shed their sweetness on the air.
May the blessing of the great rains be on you,
may they beat upon your spirit
and wash it fair and clean,
and leave there many a shining pool
where the blue of heaven shines,
and sometimes a star.
The minister recited that Irish blessing to us during the ceremony.
I'll always love the rain. The feel of its fresh, cool wetness against my skin and face, the way it sounds, the way it smells, I'll always love it. I've never minded walking in the rain. Hair and clothes, they dry. To stand in the rain and let it wash away your sorrows, your cares and worries, it is a precious thing.
That was such a sweet and wonderful day. I never thought I would get married. I never thought anyone would want me, would be able to put up with me for that long. I got everything I ever wanted....a family.....It was like, just add water! Instant family! lmao I was five months pregnant when I got married.....If my dad were not so shocked, I'm sure there would have been a shotgun present. rofl
We're not perfect. We're an odd couple and unconventional, but it works for us. It's like we married our best friends. It really is a great and wonderful thing.
he's not what anyone in my family ever saw me ending up with. He's only as tall as I am and much lighter in weight. He's goofy and silly and sweet....but he's so very stubborn. He's gentle and odd and he's mine.
I'm so glad for him. I'm so happy to have my family, my Doug and my Bug....lol
It was a good night, good memories, lots of smiles and sweetness.
I'm glad I forced myself to go!

Eh. Whatever I want to put here. :P
I know there's a place you walked where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup, I only feel right on my knees
I spit out like a sewer hole yet still receive your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now
After such a love as this?

I love the rain as well. Part of the reason I think Washington or somewhere on the upper east coast would be lovely. Rain on the cement, steaming pots of tea, leaves turning in the Fall. I love water; bubble baths, the rain, the sea. Island folk; it's in my blood, I guess. lol. It's cliche, but it really does cleanse my spirit. You can't leave a bubble bath or a long quiet, thoughtful walk in the rain and still be pissed. It's like a soft kiss upon your forehead.
Your family is great, Erin. I'm glad you understand how wondrous that is these days. Maybe someday I'll have that too. ^^
