Ever since the famous "Patterson / Gimlin Footage" of an alleged Bigfoot was taken in 1967, there have been a great number of confirmed hoaxes and fake photographs and reports concerning Bigfoot like creatures roaming around the United States and Canada. However, a wave of sightings in the mid 1970's around Florida seemed to suggest something more than just a simple prank. Many people had begun to report sightings of a large ape-like hominid, completely covered in light brown hair, and which stood seven feet tall upright like a man. However, the most noticeable feature of this creature was the putrid odor that seemed to emanate from it.
The smell varied in description, but was most commonly reported as being like a cross between a skunk, rotten eggs and even manure. A witness of the creature's sudden appearance in the Florida Keys in 1977, stated that "It stunk awful, like a dog that hasn't been bathed in a year and suddenly gets rained on". Sufficed to say, it was this fact that gave the creature it's name of "Skunk Ape".
