What happens when you fall in love with a guy you really shouldn't have fallen in love with?
Heh, I'm about to find out...
"Not again." I groaned as I realized I forgot where I put my calculator. I needed that for math homework. Too bad I'm too much of an idiot to realize these things sooner. I had to get this done in an hour. Count it. One. I stood and searched. Ha. Under my own a**. Stupid calculator. I scratched out the answers in my [somehow] neat handwriting. I had the best handwriting in my family. I'm proud of that. Ha. Even my dad's handwriting is just barely legible. I gotta remember to keep my lowercase "U"s open since I don't put that little tail at the end. Too much work. Besides, I think it looks better that way. You can't tell whether it's capital or lowercase, but it looks better with my neat scrawl.
"Tanarina!" My mom yelled.
"What?!" I yelled back.
"We're leaving in 15 minutes." Of course. Even with the calculator it took me 45 minutes. Ugh. I had already done my hair. Thank the Lord. All I needed was some nice clothes. Where was my favorite dress when I needed it? God, it tempts me in my closet every freaking day of my life and when I need it, it disappears. I checked my entire room. Oh, ha. Left it in the bathroom to put on after my shower. Moron. I quickly slipped into the dress. Did it get tighter around my...? Never mind. Not going to think about it. I ran downstairs with my black heels in my hand.
"Where are we going that I have to wear this?" I asked.
"We're going to your mom's friend's formal party." My dad answered.
"Thank you." I said said as I pulled the strap so it was snug-ish around my ankle.
"Why do you take so long? We're going to be late!" My 9 year old sister said to me angrily.
"Shut up, Karia." I glared at her. She rolled her eyes. I stood, grabbed my jacket, and walked out the door after my sister and mom. How come my mom had so many bored friends? It took at least three hours to get to the house. I fixed my dress when I got out of the car. I scowled at my hair in my reflection. Already pissed. I don't even know why I try. I followed my parents up the stairs and inside. I plastered on my best smile and greeted people as they greeted me. And then I saw him. Parts of his hair were let loose from the rest of his slicked back style. He wore all black. Black suit, black vest, black shirt, black tie. All to match a black silver nose stud and a small black hoop on his right ear. I tried not to laugh as he looked serious in front of the adults. I sat in the nearest chair and pulled out my iPod. This was gonna be boring. Or at least, that's what I thought.
Half an hour passed. Nothing. Just imagining my own music videos to my favorite songs. I think that's when he saw me. Crap. He sat down next to me on the sofa I had moved to. He pulled out my left headphone.
"Hey." He said, smiling. I could see he had regular, sharp canines. I was jealous. My canines were just little, filed down stubs.
"Hi." I tried to pay no mind to him as I pulled out my sketchbook.
"Who're your parents?" He asked.
"Curly haired lady with blond highlights and the loud guy with a little girl." I pointed them out. "Yours?"
"The lady with big teeth and a big smile and the guy who looks like he's got a stick up his a**." He told me. I laughed as quietly as I could. It came out as expected. That was all I could asked from myself.
"You kinda looked like your mom. Minus the big teeth." I realized. He smiled widely.
"You look like both your parents. You especially have your dad's smile, though." He told me. This made me smile like he did.
"Ha." I said. "I've been talking to you about this stupid stuff and I don't even know your name."
"It's Knoah. But, please, call me something different." He said with a smile.
"I'll call you......" I thought for a moment. "Noir."
"Why that?"
"Because I meet you for the first time and the only thing you wear is black. And Noir is close to your real name." He laughed.
"And your name?"
"Tanarina. But, please, call me Nari."
"Pleasure to meet you, Nari."
"The pleasure's all mine, Noir." I smiled. Our parents called us over for dinner. I sat next to him with a plate piled with food. There were a lot of good things to eat here.
"You're hungry." Noir remarked.
"I am." I looked at my mom talking with her friend and groaned. This party's fancy. I can't eat the way I want. And if my mom catches me eating however I wanted to, she'll glare and scold me in Spanish. "Hey, wanna eat at the island in the kitchen?" Noir smiled at me.
"Hell yes." He followed me out to the island. Heh. Stupid parents. They probably weren't even going to notice. They ignore teenagers anyway. I had no idea why I was so interested in Noir that night. I just knew that I was.
