Not all change is bad
Today's lecture is going to be on the concept most people fear the most, change. Whether you're an on-line junkie addicted to a forum, or the President of a country, change is something that terrifies most people.

The thing is, most change is progress. Staying static isn't an option in the world we live in.

The funny thing is, the past isn't as great as people remember it. If you think about it, if the past was all that great, then why were complaining back then? Wouldn't life be like "The Brady Bunch" where every problem was solved before the end of the episode?

The thing about life is we learn and we grow. This is what makes us human. (Actually animals learn too, but that's not my point.)
We learn new things, and we apply those things to our surroundings.

The bottom line is when remembering the past we tend to gloss over the bad bits!
People remember Gaia's old layout, the wonderful people ect... but the miss out the lack of features, the constant crashing and the jerks who existed even back then.

Well guess what. Things haven't changed that much. More people have joined the site, that means there are more jerks, but as a % its pretty much the same.

The only war that cannot be won is the war against change. Do you want to be left behind?

Do you want Gaia to be left behind?

By the way, screaming "Sell Out!" for every change you don't like is pathetic. Look it up and work out what you're actually saying.

I think it's because people fear some of the changes set precedents for roads they don't want Gaia to take (EX Gaia Cash = Premium Accounts, Sponsorships = Neopets style adverts all the time, New layout= death of all we like on Gaia) a kind of slippery slope mentality. I've supported most of the changes and while I am not thrilled with the Cash system, I am willing to give it a chance. Also some people seem to secretly jump the chance to be a rebel and fight the power........

Ironically I wrote this post before I saw the cash system. Only by a few hours or so. And yet it sort of applies.

I know there is some change I don't like. But what I hate is when people scream "SELL OUT" or condem something before they've had a chance to try it.

Perhaps its just me, living where I do and putting up with those people in real life who refuse change. I live in a pretty liberal country, and we had a couple of years ago Civil Union's introduced, which lead to major demonstrations against the sin of homosexuality. They refused to see the other side, and wanted us all to be stuck in the conformist past where only their kind had rights.

I suppose that's why I support change. I do honestly believe in giving things a chance before screaming about it.

I still don't get the logic behind people moaning about the cash system. Its a tweaked Gift Credits system. (I never liked Gift Credits honestly, they weren't worth getting. Now they are.)

Oh well, I've gone off on a tangent again.
