Today's lecture is going to be on that much loved thread that appears in any forum, you know which one, the one with the stupid questions.

Stupid Questions - These can be anything, from badly worded questions to obvious ones.

They're universal. They happen everywhere. Yes, they are annoying. But there is a correct response and an incorrect response.

Let's pretend this following question was posted in the GCD.

The Question
I bought hair from the salon and it didn't appear on my avatar!

Incorrect Response(s)


These are wrong because they are smart a** responses. Yes, that's right.
They don't help.

All they do is show that you, the poster are a stuck up prat.

Yes, the person was asking in the wrong place. But you didn't help things out. Its an honest mistake.

Correct Response(s)
You shouldn't respond at all. Seriously, most forums have rules about this. You're supposed to report the thread and move on.

But if you feel you must respond then the following is the correct format:



This is right as it politely addresses the problem. There isn't any condescension, and no flaming.


Most people who respond with the incorrect responses do it to make themselves feel big. Yay, good for you.

Go get your jollies elsewhere.
