Logic/Common Sense
Today's lecture is going to be on the concept missed by many gaian's, Logic.

Logic - in this case, can also be identified as common sense
Common Sense - sound practical judgment that is independent of specialized knowledge, training, or the like; normal native intelligence.(Dictionary.com)

Before you do anything on Gaia, you should first stop and think.
  • Will this get me in trouble?
  • Does this seem too good to be true?
  • Does this involve my email or password?

If yes was answered to any of the questions above, the the situation should be handled with care.

Many people forget about common sense when they're dealing with Gaia. OMG! This person wants to give me 100,000 gold, all they need is my password...

Right there alarm bells should be going off. Who would give away 100,000 gold? That alone should get you wary. But the major point is why do they need your password?

There is a find trading system existing already. Now those with common sense would realise that this isn't a logical event. If you give them your password, you're trusting them with your entire account. Someone you do not know just because they offered you some gold.

It has been said over and over and over, done to death, never give your password out. There isn't any need.

Another falling is when people believe the bull that the staff need your password.

Now if you were using common sense, you would notice some problems with this message. I will outline some of them, just for those who can't spot them on their own.

  • within 5 minutes of reading this message
A real message asking for information from any official site would not stick a time limit like that. It is there to scare you into making a stupid mistake (Like sending your details)

  • Username
Why would they need your username? They had to have it to contact you.
This is another attempt to make it look more "official" by not asking for your password on its own.

  • Email address
Why do they need you to give your email address? They have one on file that had to be working when you registered!

  • Password
This one needs the most attention. Aside from the many warnings, people shouting it out, and the banners everywhere, people still give this out.

Think. If the gaia staff needed to check your account, and you didn't give out your password, what would happen?
Do you honestly think the staff were stupid enough to write a website that requires each individual user's password to check out their account?
No, the staff have access to everything. They don't need your password at all.
Heck, they don't even know your password. The Magical database encrypts them, so even if someone took a peek at the database, they wouldn't get your password.

You would never give out your PIN number right. The bank staff don't need to know your PIN number to access your account right? This is exactly the same.

So let me repeat it, there is no reason to give your password to anyone.

  • Gaia Banning Bot
There is no such thing. Gaia staff all have proper names, and their names are colored. If their name is not colored, they are not a staff member, not matter what they say!

This logic seems to be escaping many people. Bottom line, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Sadly common sense is something that cannot be taught. You either have it, or you don't.

Yay for more of Leo's thoughts!

...this is mostly why I have that phrase about common sense in my siggy. It really isn't as common as you think and sadly, yes, it can't be taught. ><;

^^ *wuffs the wisdom that is Mr. Leo* x3

Common sense?! Whats that!? O:

In all honesty, people should really, REALLY pay attention to the ToS. No matter how bad it is, read it. It was placed there for your protection. Its like, "Hm, this dude doesnt look like hes part of the staff...but his PM looks shiny enough to be legit!" -cough-

But, as Bath has in her siggy, Common Sense isnt so Common, huh? Great entry 3nodding !
