A Jet Sword was the simplest to use, compared to any other ordinary weapon. The Jet Sword is made out of an ordinary compound used to make Katanas, but instead of having a normal handle, it was hollowed out, and allows pure energy to propel the action, or movement of the handler. (Like a jet pack, only smaller.)
Basically saying, if he was falling at a high elevation, he could pull out his sword, and use it to propel himself upwards.
