Draconian Embassy Legacies
Chapter 1: A Meeting of Two Worlds
Ryona leaned against the decaying post; her mid-length silver hair caught the sunlight and made it shine. She was resting, after having been in a long and arduous struggle for a certain relic which had been stolen from her. Her protective armor glowed as if empowered, and showed no signs of any battle, such was the magic instilled in it. As for her weapon, it was a long slender blade with a dull metal edge with a boring guard. There were runes on the tarnished blade although she couldn't make them out.
The meadow in which she rested her sore body was tranquil. The azure sky was beautiful and Ryona wished at that moment that she could fly. She ran a hand through her silver locks and sighed at the nature that surrounded her. She slid down the mossy wooden log in relief. While relaxing and absorbing the wonderful heat of the sun, she spied something that flew gracefully.
It wove in and out of the white clouds and swooped as if in the joy of flight. The creature had a long powerful tail, a supple neck, with iridescent royal purple scales and it looked large. The bat-like wings stroked the air in powerful bursts of energy. "What is that?" Ryona muttered to herself. The warrior slowly got up, and ever so stealthily she hid herself just within the tree-line of the forest behind her. The animal flew by and she could feel the downdraft from its passing. Then it banked and wheeled over to where Ryona was hiding, circled once and landed in front of the amazed woman. It was a dragon, in all of its glory that now stretched its wings, and reared back its neck in uncertainty. Ryona could tell right away that the serpentine creature was a female and a young one too. Probably curious as to why Ryona was here in the forest, or maybe she wanted lunch! Some dragons were deceptive and so a human had to be on their toes if they wanted to live long. Ryona jumped back in concern and her hair flew back to reveal a half-elf's ears. The dragon herself had instantly recognized the creature before her to be a hybrid, this revelation but confirmed her decision even more. The purple gazed into the creatures eyes and spoke softly in the language of dragons. Her brilliant eyes traveled down and took in the sight of the blade that the half-elf was in possession of. The dragon spread her wings slightly and backed up a bit. She had felt the power that the sword held; in fact that was what had drawn her to this place. Now the dragon needed to communicate with the halfling, to assure her that she meant no harm. Luckily for Ryona, in earlier years, she had undertaken training of learning the dragon's speech; she understood what the creature had said. Now she struggled to remember all that she had been taught by her teacher. "I will not harm you if you do none to me. My name is Nynde."? The dragon informed trying to persuade Ryona into friendship. Nynde moved a bit closer to where the half-elf stood. Ryona regarded the behemoth with some distrust but also with growing interest. She swiftly glanced down at her sword; it was ancient and looked like it couldn't put up a decent fight. So how was she going to get out of this predicament? She didn't want to spend a moment longer in the vicinity of this creature, so she silently shifted backwards. Then with concentration, she focused and before Nynde's startled eyes the armor transformed into non-descript brown leather. Then she slipped into the underbrush behind her, hoping to lose the dragon. Cerulean eyes took in the terrain and she sprinted unhesitatingly towards safety. Her passage was covered by shadows as she went forward. Meanwhile the dragon was not going to give up; she pumped her wings to gain altitude, and employed a special sense. Or to be more accurate, her infrared vision, which came in hand while hunting in her frozen home land. Nynde scanned the ground in hopes of locating the fleeing woman, and she did. Looking ahead to see where the hybrid was going, Nynde spied a meadow. That was where she was going to catch her; all she had to do was time it just so. Ryona had reached the opening and was sprinting across it like mad, she had dodged many trees and logs, and there was one last obstacle to complete, the biggest log that she had ever seen. She gathered herself and jumped. Ryona would never know if she would have made it or not, for at that moment a clawed hand snatched her up. It was the DRAGON! Ryona was in a state of panic, with one fluid movement she drew her sword and sliced upwards at Nynde's wrist. To her amazement she was able to cut through the hide like butter. Her capturer roared in surprise and at the pain that seared up her arm like electricity, and without intending to, she threw Ryona away in reflex. So, Ryona fell through the air plummeting towards the beckoning ground. Nynde realized what she had done and dove for the elf, her air lined body racing time. She was almost there, but the earth came ever closer at the same time. There! In a two second pull up Nynde had caught Ryona, and completed her desperate catch in a rather ungraceful landing. "Are you okay?"? Nynde asked of the half-elf while panting with exhausted. Her grip had slackened on Ryona and now the girl had escaped her grasp. Suddenly the dragon saw an odd spectacle, the half-elf's sword glowed soft silver. Magical energy crackled around the decadent blade and blue sparks flew from it. A feral grin etched itself across Ryona's face. She had spotted the dragon's weakness, and she had also found a possible escape. All dragons had an elemental weakness; they were all balanced that way. This one, being a snow element, was vulnerable to either fire or hot water. She decided to use water, since the elven half of her was that of a water elf. A glistening ball of steaming water appeared in front of her and she swirled her sword to give direction to her attack. The dragon squawked in surprise as the wave enveloped her and struggled to break free of the heavy assault. It wouldn't kill her, but it wasn't like she was enjoying it! Nynde couldn't tell what was going on, all she knew was that the halfling was going to get away, and she did not want to lose that precious sword! Ryona had gotten her chance, she pulled up a shiny object, and it was a ring attached to a hidden door beneath the ground. She heaved with all her might to lift it, and with a groan it opened. It was her last hope, and she knew that the spell would wear off soon. It was either the dragon or the secret passage. Casting a glance over to the befuddled dragon, Ryona disappeared into the dark entrance to chance her fate inside.
