As a person who enjoys the simplicity of poetry, I find prose hard to compose, never mind the rhyme. I prefer a short, exultant spate of words is easier to spill than a lengthy dissertation of the hows and whys we do things. I love stories, though, and there will never be a book I will put down with only negative things to say- simply because if the story was awful, the characters or plot worked, or there was a clever device- there's always a saving grace to writing, and works of writing. Many of my favorite authors are old, aging, dying. I find it's the new generation of authors that is letting down the profession- too many of them have never actually lived.
This is for you, Mr. Jacob.
