Into the Darkness
The wind whistled through the dormant branches of winter as Katherine slowly approached the creaking metal and stone frame of the resting castle. Steam slowly rises from its resting legs as if ready to rise up and begin to move once more. It was a marvel in itself, but the secrets inside were the true source of envy. Knowledge to harness lightning in a bottle, to transform metal, even bring men from the brink of death. It was an absolute treasure trove to those willing to try, and a grave to every person who had tried. The Demon King, as the people called him, was not terribly willing to share his bounty with intruders. Many a thief had been staked on branches outside of towns, swaying like scarecrows in the breeze. Each one so easily found, each one never having a chance. She took a low, deep breath as she slowly lowered her hood, letting the moonlight shine down upon her golden locks. She steadied herself as she lifted a hand and knocked on the massive wooden doors, choosing to knock like a guest. Hoping he would be intrigued more by the pleasant company than the idea of tearing her slender frame apart.
