The next morning, Aldo had 3 concept designs on his idea for the featured float. He had decided it would be good to have 3 different looks planned out for the parade but also be a good idea to take a poll and find out what the people in town would like to see and remember in the Shadowbourne Parade. He made a paper that had 3 different sections for tallying votes. The first columned section of the paper was titled “Love and Beauty”, the second was “Beauty and Remorse”, and the third columned section was “Pain and Tragedy”. He knew what he wanted but he thought it would only be fair to let the determining votes be made by everyone else. He then put the sheet on a clip board and and carefully slipped a pen behind the clip. He grabbed his leather jacket and made his way outside in the cool March weather to take his polls.
The weather was sunny and clear and the air was cool but not cold. Spring was just creeping in and the snow was already melting away. As he walked through the town he saw that many people were out enjoying the weather. Everyone he walked by greeted him with a friendly hello and seemed kind enough to make a vote in his poll as he explained what it was for. By noon, he had been out for just an hour and gotten 50 votes put in.
He had become hungry by that time and decided it was he should eat. He walked into the nearest restaurant and grabbed a seat in the front by a window. As he looked through the menu out of the corner of his eye he spotted a girl sitting by the water fountain just outside in the center of the town square. She had red curly hair that was very short in the back and long in the front with bangs that framed her round face. She was thin with pale skin, wearing a grey, plaid, coach coat, electric blue skinny jeans, and black boots. She appeared to be eating a homemade lunch from a colorfully striped lunch bag shaped like a purse.
“Hello, sir,” A waitress pulled Aldo’s attention away from the girl. “My name is Candice, and I will be waiting on you today. Can I get you anything to drink?”
“Oh yes,” Aldo answered. “Do you have any non-carbonated beverages?”
“We have lemonade, water, and strawberry lemonade.”
“May I have the strawberry lemonade then.”
“Yes you may. Oh, and welcome to Shadowbourne, sir.”
“Thank you,” Aldo smiled as the waitress walked off to get his order. Aldo then looked out the window again to see that the girl who had once been eating the a homemade lunch by the fountain was now gone. Aldo then began skimming through the lunch menu, trying to decide on something to order although now distracted by thoughts of the girl.
After Aldo finished his meal he went outside to continue and try and get more votes for his float designs. The waitress, Candice, was kind enough to make a vote. And for that he gave her a generous tip. Candice’s vote had gotten “Beauty and Remorse” tied up with “Love and Beauty”. By now the town square had more people walking outside. So he decided that taking polls by the fountain at this time would be perfect.
By 2:15PM he spotted the girl once again. This time she was walking out of a game shop that was right next to the restaurant that he ate at. The girl walked her way through a small crowd of people and vanished. He tried finding her in the crowd of people, but he could not find her. Something about the girl had Aldo intrigued, and wanting to know who she was.
At this time he felt he had enough votes for the day, so he made his way home to recount the votes and began making the designs for the featured float. Aldo tried to push the thoughts of the mystery girl in the back of his head.
