Avi Stories #3: Tirxo the Minder
Tirxo Azikk Di’l Dhoven (called “The Minder”) is an exiled bodyguard, former military leader, born in the city of Issiren (Elm Kingdom capital city) in the 108th year of the Irgg-na era.
Coming from a middle class family of merchants from Sibwal city, he dropped out of school at the age of 14 due to its fighting tendencies and overall learning and discipline issues. His father didn’t care too much since he always planned Tirxo to continue his merchant businesses.
Since Tirxo never pictured himself dealing with numbers and goods, he challenged his father’s will to becoming a merchant. After some heavy arguing his father threw him out of the house. He left his home with only a couple of belongings and a irrepressible sensation of freedom.
At the age of 17 , after 2 years of been living with an old and retired warlord in the countryside, he returned to Issiren city to get himself enlisted in the Elm Kingdom Royal Military Arts and War Strategies Academy, to learn all about what he ever wanted to dedicate his life to: the battle, weapons and stuff…
At the age of 19 was taken by the army directly ranked as Second Lieutenant due to his exceptional military abilities such as on Infantry leading and defensive military strategies. While he was playing a tactical assistant role and leader head of the 15th phalanx legion in active service during the War of the Purple Rain; he remained learning and studying at the military academy ‘till the age of 22. He also almost loses his right eye during one of the many battle encounters he participated in. During that time he also contributed to the improvement of many already existing war and one-man military tactics (mainly defensive), while creating some others. He was a rising combat arms genius.
After graduating officially from the military academy, he was already a consummated warlord, spending the next years of his young life as Summum Legatus of the Issiren Royal Defense Legion; with the defense commanding labor of the city on his shoulders.
He’s also known for having developed a new personal weapon, specifically designed for the heavy infantry branch to attack certain classes of cavalry, such as light cavalry and unmanned assault beasts; allowing the allied cavalry behind to have an easier path across the enemies’ cavalry frontlines on their way to their rearguard. This weapon was known as The Marlin; a short lance made of a steel, aluminum and lazurite alloy that causes the weapon itself to have some sort of blue fluorescence appearance. The Marlin was commonly called by the soldier as the “Skyneedle” due to its coloring and lightweight needle shaped body.
At the age of 29 he decides to withdraw from battle fields definitely to devote himself to minor positions such as self-defense techniques and behavior teacher, military science writer and as Royal Military Defense Counselor; spending often his leisure practicing ocarina.
Not long after, at the age of 32, having earned the Kingdom leaders confidence and respect along the last years, The King Khlovis V decides to hire Tirxo for a much “less tedious” role: As the Royal Guardian of the Princess Eerides, the King’s first daughter; and occasionally as her court’s protector too…
After 5 long years as the Princess’s personal guardian; all Tirxo’s world change radically when one day, in a cloudy forest to the south of Mhul (“The City of Retirement”). Eerides, her page and him were on one of the princess regular rides through the countryside stopped by a clearing in the middle of the forest to have a little picnic during lunch time.
Yet enjoying, Tirxo was always alert to menaces, keeping half of his brain on work and the other half on fun. Unfortunately, maybe too much immersed in the happy moments, he didn’t notice that the clearing they were in was been slowly flooded with the forest mist. By the moment they were about to leave, the mist became so dense that they were barely able to see 10 feets away; they didn’t notice the bandits approaching.
They suddenly broke in, taking first on the Princess; but she defended well as Tirxo did teach her and beat a couple down. The page ran away spooked, but was taken down not far from there by a flying arrow. Tirxo immediately got into his bodyguard shoes to defend the princess’s life with his own.
Quickly overwhelmed by a non-stop series of bandits trying to put their hands on the Princess to kidnap her, he decided it was time to get the hell out of there. Having made sure the princes took the reins well and was ready to ride on her mare; he kicked the bandits away and got on his own horse to follow the princess. Together they sprinted away.
After a short escape, while still riding away in the middle of the mist, the Princess’s horse accidentally hit a tree and she fell off of it violently. Tirxo rapidly dismounted to help the princess up, but she was dead already, right on the spot. He was devastated, but there was no time for regrets. The bandits were not far from there and he could hear them approaching. He took the Princess body with him on his horse and rode away to the city.
Once been before the kingdom leader, he explained everything that happened with only the pure truth, saving the excuses and deeply apologizing to the throne man. Many had his confidence and indeed believed him. But the 25 years old Princess was irreversibly dead. It was a kingdom wide major tragedy.
The King was immersed in the greatest sorrow. That’s when the King’s Royal Counselor of the Throne, Ybrenm Derr Wynfrith Von Khammen, having been jealous to Tirxo for years due to his success and proximity to the Royal Family, and the confidence and love he earned among them along the years, he started to plant a seed of hate and doubt in the King’s mind against Tirxo; taking advantage out of his unstable sentimental condition and selfishly exploiting the recent tragedy. It worked.
Soon the King could not stop thinking about a betrayal from Tirxo. He deeply suspected that the Princess’s Real Guardian himself was somehow implicated in the whole thing.
Tirxo was soon made prisoner within his own house by the King’s orders, while he takes the time to decide how to deal with the whole situation, and also how to treat Tirxo from now on.
Tirxo, struggle less, gladly accepted and let the King know that he was willing to carry through with any of his punishments without a single complaint, just for consider himself guilty for not being careful enough during his work time. He was not much less hurt by the loss than the King himself.
After 33 days of self-deliberating about what to do, the King forgives Tirxo’s life and freedom; but based mainly on his feelings, he decided (against many people’s beliefs; even his wife’s, the Queen) to banish Tirxo out of Elm forever.
Even proofless and without any witness to support his suspicion, blinded by sorrow, unable to discern friend from foe, poisoned by a foreign tongue while he was not able to listen to his heart rather than his pride, coldhearted; the King (who still have no successor) threw his once most beloved subordinated out of the kingdom.
Tirxo was escorted to the confines of the kingdom, where from there beyond its kingship have no influences. He left Elm with only a couple of belongings and an irrepressible sensation of freedom.
