My name is Jacob Greer and the following that you are about to read actually happened. For the safety of the people involved I will not tell you the name of places, real names of people, or even the year that this all happened. You may not want to read any further because after this paragraph well the story gets started. My advice for anyone who is in fact planning to read further is to read it with an open mind and a paper shredder or a book of matches close at hand.
First I suppose I should describe myself. I am six feet tall and have blond hair past my shoulders. In all my travels I always have with me my four wonderful companions who are my only true family. Star who is a male, Irish wolfhound, Watcher who is a Caucasian Ovcharka, Hunter who is a Kangal, and finally Bear who is a Akbash both of which are pure breeds from Turkey.
I grew up with my grand mother, my uncle, and my sister. My parents were not the biggest part of my life but they were there at least until they both got caught with a meth lab in their garage. They served a long sentence and I only saw them occasionally. They got out when I was in the fifth grade and surprised me by picking me up from school. After a few years they moved in together again and got married one year later mom died due to cancer. You may be wondering what this has to do with the story; well you’d be right if you guessed that it didn’t. I just thought you’d get a kick out of my life I guess someone should.
When I was young I used to see things. These things could rang from small lights to intricate shapes. I used to hear things all the time like the walls themselves were whispering to each other unaware of my very presence. When I got to the age of 13 I became infatuated with the paranormal. I looked at books of ghosts, demons, and cryptids. This obsession grew throughout my teen years along with me my friend Tyler also had the same obsession. We looked all over for more people just so we could hear their stories no matter how far fetched or incredible.
When I turned 18 I moved to a big home in a small town n the mountains. I chose this place because I had heard stories of a Bigfoot like creature roaming the area. At this time me and Tyler kept in touch while he was being trained by the marines. I had been kicked out one month after I enlisted for almost killing a superior officer but I still ended up working for the government in a division that is all about the finding, capturing, and protecting of cryptids and other so called “mythical creatures.” This was the reason I was at this small mountain town in this rundown house. My first mission after only a few weeks of training was to find and dispose of the Bigfoot like creature.
The house it self was two stories high and about a quarter of a mile away from town and was about one hundred yards from a small lake. It was in the worst condition I had ever seen. It was surrounded by thick woods and there was only one dirt road that led to town. The old owners were found slaughtered in the living room. The town’s people said that it was the Bigfoot creature that did it. That was why I was there.
The first thing that I did when I began the move into the old house was setting up 24/7 surveillance cameras on the out side and even a few select places inside of the house. After I got settled in I then placed trap cameras in a one-mile circle around the property. I also put cameras and laser sensors along the road leading to the house. The inside of the house was pretty roomy for two stories. There were a total of seven separate rooms including a two story room that was supposed to be the library. The other rooms were obvious two bedrooms, one bathroom, kitchen/dinning room, and two spare rooms that could be used for just about anything. It was in one of these rooms that I set up the monitors and computers for all of the surveillance equipment.
After a few weeks of letting the equipment set I decided to check my results. I first started with the trap cameras. With me came my four dogs that always were with me. I looked at the data from the first camera and was disappointed to see there was nothing special. Unfortunately this was also true for the next twenty cameras and the next thirty as well. It wasn’t until I came to the last ten cameras that I had any hope. These cameras were the furthest from the residence and the deepest into the woods. There was signs of activity around every tree that had a trap camera set on it so I collected the data and went back to my surveillance room to look it over.
When I began looking at the pictures that the trap camera had taken I was disappointed at first because whatever was there was too out of focus to see clearly. I spooled slowly over the remainder of the footage when one picture in particular caught my attention. It wasn’t the best picture but you could clearly see a big, hairy, and black creature easily reaching up to a branch that was more than ten feet off the ground. This was of course a major discovery but it was far from conclusive evidence to the existence of the creature. There was no more data to go through so I called the dogs and with all of them subtled into bed for the night.
I woke up at four AM as usual the next morning out of habit. Watcher was sleeping on my left side with his head resting on my shoulder, Star was doing the same on my right. Bear was laying between my legs with his head resting on my stomach and Hunter was already up and drinking from the water bowl next to the bed. I stirred slightly and all three of the dogs on the bed got up and hunter looked at me with a welcoming look. The three dogs and myself got of the bed and stretched almost simultaneously. The dogs all took a drink out of the bowl and we headed down stairs. I let the four of them out to do their business and filled the four bowls with dog food and set out a piece of meat for all of them. While the started to come in I started on some eggs for my self and I knew that this could be the only time I’d eat today.
As I began to prepare for the day ahead I got all my equipment ready. The first thing I had to do was put on Star’s vest which had a holster on each side of his body. One for the Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather SS and the other held a Grizzly 50 caliber sniper rifle that is slightly modified. I carried another Grizzly with me and a Smith and Wesson 50 caliber hand gun on my hip. In my mind I was going through the procedures that we’d be doing. Star would stay by me so I had the guns at close range, Hunter would go twenty to thirty feet in front of me and try to catch a scent, with him would be Bear and Watcher.
Outside there was a slight chill in the air but according to the forecast it was supposed to warm up fairly quickly so I left my jacket inside besides I didn’t want the constriction of the jacket on my arms. We started directly for where the last track camera was set and from there we’d search in whatever direction Hunter took us. When we got to the site I went over to the tree that was in the photo and broke off the branch that the creature had been reaching to in the picture. I looked all over the branch and after that I looked on the tree it’s self and sure enough about five feet up I found a good sized tussle of black hair. I picked this out from behind some bark and put my hand down and in turn let all four dogs smell it. Hunter who was the last to smell it let out a growl that I knew very well it was a growl of eagerness and anticipation.
We made our way slowly through the forest in perfect formation. I came out of a slight daze five minutes later Hunter had stopped and was looking around. The first thing I noticed was the quite, there was always some noise but right now there was nothing. No birds no deer nothing, even the wind seemed to be hushed. I could smell a stench in the air that smelt like wet dog and brimstone. I made a low whistling sound and the dogs crowded around me in all directions. Whatever it was it was out there and it was close and by the way the smell was getting worse it was getting closer. Watcher was the first one to spot it. It was about one hundred yards off and was coming closer on a fairly straight path through the trees.
I took a knee and the dogs knew exactly what it ment when I did this even tho they had little training. Bear stood at my back watching in the opposite direction while Hunter and Watcher took positions on ethier side of me. Star took his position in front and laid on his stomach so his side was to me. He was just big enough that I could comfitably rest the rifle on his back while taking aim.
Looking through the ten times scope I could clearly see all of it’s features. Hit was almost human but there was something that severly differated it from humans. It wasn’t the hair tho it’s body was covered in it and it looked thick and black. Nor was it the smell. It was something in the movement its muscels just seemed too large and too inhuman. I slowly lined the dot in the center of the scope with a spot near the middle of its neck where the gugular vein would be. I inhaled deeply and held it for a second when I adjusted for wind and movent then exhaled slowly and took the shot.I could see it happening in slow motion. The bullet let the rifels muzzle broke the soud berrier whent the ninety yards and hit it exactly where I had aimed dropping it instantly.
This was supposed to be the easiest part. All I had to do was recover the body and transport it my truck to a designated meeting point after I radioed in to inform my boss that the job was done. I put the rifle on my shoulder with it’s strap and drew the Smith and Wesson on my hip. Even if they said it was supposed to be the easiest part that didn’t mean s**t to me. I may be a little green behind the ears but I know enough to expect the unexpected.
I made my way to the body in a half-crouched position and trying it make as little noise as possible. I wasn’t even one hundred percent sure why I was even taking theses precations but the dogs seemed to understand and were moving silently in the way it seems only a dog can. I got to the body of the creature and the one thing that would not leave my mind was the smell. It completely overwhelmed my senses to the point my eyes started watering and I was forced to cover my nose and mouth with a hankechief. I couldn’t help by feel sorry for my canine companions. I checked the GPS locater and was surprised to see we weren’t far from the house at all in fact I was just on the other side of the lake.
Now that I had confirmed that it was indeed dead I thought of how I should get it back to the house and to my truck. I didn’t want to leave it here but nore did I feel like drgging it all the way back. I ened up having no choice since I just couldn’t leave it there I had to drag it around the lake and back to the house a total distance of nine hundred yards give or take a few feet. It was when I decided on this that I truly realized just how huge this thing was. It was easily eight feet tall and if it had been a human the would have been no question he was on steroids. I couldn’t help but think back to when I was a kid and saw a show on specially bred bulls that had double mucles. I cursed my own stupidity at not thinking ahead and grabed hold of its heavely mucled legs which ended in feet that dwarfed my size twelve wides.
It was just getting to midday when I arrived at the house drenched in sweat. The dogs were behind me and were also panting because of the heat. I managed to get the crearure onto the bed of the truck and was barely able to shut the tale gate but after couple of its joints and my back popping I was able to close it. I pulled a tarp over it and tied it down. Then I went inside to find the dogs already drinking their water so I grabed a bottle of water and headed back out to the truck with the radio.
I tuned the radio to the second channel and waited for a response. I got one after a few minutes it was the boss himself well more herself really. She was the one that saved me from serious jail time in return for becoming part of her organization. I didn’t know her full name but she introduced herself as Mrs.Amil. Her voice was clear even over the static of the radio.
“Hello Jacob.” She said before I even began talking.
I responded to her greeting by saying. “You know if I didn’t know better I’d say you were expecting me.”
To which she replied “Well than maybe you should rethink what it is that you think you know.”
I wasn’t willing to continue the game a merely responded by saying “The target is taken care of so why don’t you give me the coordenates and you can go back to doing whatever the hell it is you do?”
She obviously despised that I ened the game and barked out some gps coordenates and told me the pick up was in two hours. I felt drained mainly from the long walk and having to drag that giant sack ofn muscle all the way but also because my nights were plauged with horrible dreams. I'd see nothing but darkness then there would be a surrounding orange light that would grow bright and turn into a blazing fire. I would run around in a panic until I came upon a great shape. what was mostlikely its head turned to me and I looked into its deep eyes a swirl of red and blue. I could feel it shift then the shadows of great wings behind it after that I my mind would turn black and soon I'd wake.
It was not because I had this dream last night thatI was drained but rather because i hadn't.
