If you don't want to be made fun of, don't ask for it. Sure, you may not deserve it (I'm sure you're a perfectly decent human being). But there are some places where acting a certain way is not socially acceptable. If you want to be a "rebel" and attract that kind of attention, then don't change a thing about yourself.
But there is such a thing as meeting people halfway: If there's something about the way you present yourself that offends people that much, what's wrong with giving a little in order to make it possible to be friends with people? Is wearing your hair a certain way, or wearing those certain clothes such an essential part of your soul that you'd cease to exist if you gave it up temporarily? Are you really that shallow?
I'll bet you're not.
I actually used to have the same problem as you. I got picked on because I was different, but I was different on purpose, just like you. So I decided to try something: I started presenting myself extra mainstream, boring even. The result? I ended up making friends with tons of people who would have been put off by my "out there" appearance, and they were shocked to find that I'm actually a pretty interesting, outside-the-mainsteream (and even a little bit twisted) individual. Looking normal gave my real personality the element of surprise.
Try it. You may be pleased with the result.
But if you insist on keeping the same image, just remember: Whether you deserve it or not, you know those mean people are out there, and that image is an open invitation to them, whether you like it or not.
