A Fellow Ice Friend
When she had set out for the market that day, she had simply gone to buy some more food for her and Gwen. She didn’t expect to see an old friend there. The stalls were as noisy as ever and she took comfort in that, although she was indeed an oddity, there were so many other oddities around her that she seemed to almost blend in. She was looking at some vegetables when a screech met her ears. This wasn’t too rare, as there were always quite a few animals being sold in the marketplace. However, this one had a familiar ring to it.
Turning her head, a glimmer caught her eye, but the figure disappeared behind the sea of people. Gently pushing herself through to the otherside of the market, she finally got a good look at what had made the sound that had triggered the faint memory. The curved beak, the glistening body, the eyes. It was Jireth, the one that she had flown with numerous times back in her dragon-days.
“So ye like the ice falcon, eh Missy? Just 15K” The vender said, hoping against hope that the woman would take the falcon. He knew that it would be hard to find an owner…due to the extra work needed to take care of the animal of ice.
Sadness seemed to fill Jireth’s dark eyes as the woman looked sadly at him. “I’ll be back.” She said, taking one last look before walking away.
The dragonet looked at the odd creature, tilting her head this way and that. The dark eyes stared back, undeterred. With a leap, Gwendolynn was upon Jireth, both of them falling to the wooden floor of the cottage in a tustle. The dragoness watched in amusement as her child and her old friend played, laughing as Jireth retreated to her shoulder.
