The five-year old Nikki, cried loudly into her mother's shoulder as she ran with her in her arms. Emma ran down the street as fast as her legs would go, the weight of Nikki adding her her exhaustion. Panting hard, she walked into a storage shed. Emma closed the door quickly behind her. Moving quickly to the back of the shed, she placed her crying child down on the ground behind a big box in the corner. She kneeled beside Nikki and shushed her, trying to get her to stop crying. "Nikki, Sweetheart, you have to stop crying," she said in a quiet but panicked voice as she stoked Nikki's cheeks with her hands. "Please Baby, you have to stop crying."
Nikki's sobs quieted as Emma wiped her eyes. Emma pulled a necklace out of her pocket and placed it over Nikki's head. She smiled softly at her and said, "Please Nikki, whatever you do, stay quiet."
Nikki shook her head up and down before closing her eyes. "I love you," said Emma, kissing Nikki's forehead.
As she stood, a loub bang resounded on the door. She moved away from her daughter to run to another part of the shed. Just as she crouched down behind one of the larger boxes,the door flew open and hit the floor with a loud metallic thud. Nikki pressed her small hands over har mouth as three sinister looking men walked inside. Each wore a cape and were dressed in extremely dark clothing. Were it not for the light from the moon and the streetlights they would have been able to move unseen.
Nikki and Emma heard a growl as the men began to search the shed. As one of them began to approach Nikki's hiding place, she held her hands even tighter over her mouth. "Look what I found," said one of the other men with an evil laugh.
The man that was walking toward Nikki turned and moved toward the man that spoke. They had found Emma. She stood quickly and tried to run but the third man grabbed her and pinned her against the wall. He smiled, revealing four razor sharp canines. Emma's eyes widened at the sight of what had killed her husband only moments before. The vampire pinning her gave an evil lough that sent chills down her spine. He bent his head down so as to whisper in her ear. "I can sense your fear, and smell your blood."
Emma whimpered as he kissed the side of her neck. He licked his lips as he pulled away and said, "Von, if you want her, take her before I do."
As he stepped back, another vampire stepped forward and immediately bit into her neck. The last word that escaped her lips, was run. Nikki jumped up and immediately ran to the door. Von let go of Emma's neck and ran after Nikki with the others, leaving Emma's body to fall to the floor.
Nikki ran as fast and as hard as she could, her sobs echoing in the empty streets. Two of the vampires appeared in front of her, When she turned around to run the other way, the third one was there. They moved in closer to her her and one grabbed her shoulders. Von grabbed ahold of her dark brown hair and pulled her head back. Nikki's saphire blue eyes went wide in terror. Just as the vampire went to biter her, the first hint of sun came over the horizon. The three vampires hissed and disappeared as the sun and the moon, told each other 'good night' and 'good morning'. Nikki's sobs grew louder as she fell to her knees and closed her eyes, tears pouring down her cheeks. A few minutes later, she felt strong arms lift her up and hold her tight, a man's strong voice offering comfort, but still, she did not open her eyes.
