Owner: T ` P o i Herald Name: Wepwawet Gender: Male Sacrifice: A small nine-tailed fox totem charm carved from white jade.
Prompt Response:Prompt 2 It was a dark and stormy night when you gave your Herald their sacrifice. Since then, your Herald has been Reborn and in your care for some time. In the middle of the night, a vicious storm arrives. You are waken up by the shaking from one very terrified Messenger Reborn Herald. What do you do? Why is your Herald so afraid? What is your solution?
Seiya looked up at the clouds gathering in the sky, eyes narrowed. Ever since the night she'd found poor Wepwawet, she'd disliked storms like this more and more. It reminded her of of too many things she didn't want to think about. She sighed and stretched. She'd tucked the Herald she'd come to call her son into bed not too long ago, and it was time she followed him into dreams. The cross-dressing werewolf went into her room, shed her clothes, and curled up on top of her covers, choosing to sleep in wolf form that night.
The shivering of another person startled Seiya from her sleep; crimson eyes immediately going to the source of the shivering.
Curled up against her mid-section, small hands tangled in her black fur, was Wepwawet, one of the few people who could actually sneak up on the battle-hardened werewolf. Her guard was immediately down and her maternal instincts kicked in. She shifted to her human form, taking the dark Herald into her arms.
"Cub...what's wro-" Before she could finish, there was a clap of thunder and Wepwawet let out a cry he'd obviously been holding in. Seiya winced, then blinked. "The thunder? Is that what you're afraid of?" He nodded, hugging her tightly. Seiya sighed. This was going to be one of those nights. "Wepwawet." He looked up at her, obviously trying not to cry. She winced at that. Great, he was picking up her habits. She looked back to him. "Cub, why are you afraid of the thunder?" Before he could answer, another rumble sent his face back into her torso. She sighed and rubbed his back, waiting for him to stop trying not to cry. After several minutes, he finally peeked back up at her. "Better? Now, why are you so afraid of thunder?" Wepwawet looked around, then put his face near her ear. "I heard thunder is a monster's roar...And that monster likes to eat kids like me..." He promptly hid underneath her blankets, leaving Seiya with an utterly bewildered expression on her sharp face. "Wait..what?! Who told you that?!" The Dark Herald peeked out from under the blankets. "Sachiko-sama..." Seiya growled. "That apprentice of mine is going to be doing extra chores for the next month!" Wepwawet's whimper told her just how 'scary' she looked at that moment, even in nothing but her bra and underwear. She blinked and sighed, reaching over to ruffle her son's hair. "Cub...there is no monster attached to the thunder. A few spirits, but no monsters. In fact, one of the werewolf totems is Grandfather Thunder. He's a great and powerful spirit who protects his children, rather than harms them. He's...a bit like me, I suppose. Seemingly scary on the outside, but really caring on the inside. You just have to get under his skin, like you did with me, Wepwawet." To be honest, Seiya was just glad his fear of thunder had nothing to do with his dark beginning. Wepwawet blinked and looked out the window, wincing at another rumble of thunder. "Really...Can I meet him?" Seiya nodded. "When you're a little older. But you will get to meet him one day." Wepwawet smiled and snuggled up to his mother. "Okay. Can I sleep with you tonight?" Seiya chuckled. "Of course, cub. Of course."

On the starship Zeta, the computer known as Blue has been known to store the consciousness of people who have died an unnatural death. And when she feels the time is right, the sensors make an uncommon type of emitter pack, allowing the consciousness of the deceased to gain a hologram body...though their mind stays in the computer. Considered one of the 'next steps' of humanity, it is often argued that they are not human at all anymore. Some even wonder if they have their own free will...or does Blue control them?

History Bai Mianxi Lung was one of the first Fourth Wave children. Born to a Flesh Clouded Marker and Maker mother and a normal Flesh Mender father, Bai Mianxi was always a little different from her parents. She liked people, but she didn't like blood or pain that she could see. She was creative and imaginative, but she could never use her hands to draw or paint or mold something into Art. But she could tell stories. She would often tell the legends and myths her Chinese-descended mother told her to the other children, recounting things such as the tales of the Monkey King in ways that the other children could clearly picture what she was telling. That caught the attention of the recently formed Speakers. When she was ten, the speakers took her under their wing and she began to refine her talent. When she was fifteen, it was decided she was ready for the first rank and sent out to find any stories of Earth she could...but first she told Blue the legends of her early childhood. After all, what is history without its legends and myths? And out in the rest of the ship, she was an adept gatherer of Earth lore. She was friendly, loved to listen as well as talk, and didn't mind going wherever the stories were. Though she liked dressing nicely, in the ways of her mother's ancestors, she didn't mind getting dirty if there was a story to be had. Some say she even talked to the Stained for their Earth tales... But that ended when she was nineteen. After four short years, her life as a full-fledged Speaker ended in tragedy. No one is sure just what happened...but a machine malfunctioned, and exploded while Bai Mianxi was nearby. One of those 'wrong place at the wrong time' scenarios. She died before the menders could get her two feet from the site. Most thought that would be the end, and her family was obviously torn apart inside during her funeral. What wasn't known, was that Blue had stored her consciousness.
life.after.death The last thing you remember is a bright flash. Now you've opened your eyes, and you are surrounded by people you don't recognize wearing strange clothes in a place you swear you've never been. One of them smiles, steps up, and says something in a language you only half understand. What next?
note [Insert Number] indicates where the translation of words and/or speech is at the bottom of the entry. -gibberish- means Bai Mianxi does not understand that part of what was said. For artistic purposes, I am typing speech in both Chinese and English, to further the feel of the entry. That flash seemed to still be behind her eyes. She winced and opened them, trying to get rid of that bright flash. That was the last time she stayed so close to a Fixer while they were working. She would have continued her thoughts, but something startled her. "Good -gibberish- zao[1]! -more gibberish-are nin[2]?" She did not know these people. At all. She hadn't even seen them before. And what on Zeta were they speaking? Parts of it were the Chinese she'd grown up with, and others were English...but they made no sense to her in the way they were spoken. And this place...she'd never been here before, and she'd been all over Zeta, looking for stories for Blue. She narrowed her eyes at the people in front of her, the one who had spoken just smiling away. They wore such strange clothes as well. Certainly not Mender clothing or anything her family wore. Her mother and siblings favored clothes like her own, designed after their ancestors. She then shied away a bit, causing the smiling one to frown slightly. Sure she was friendly...but these people were quite strange indeed...Stranger than any Stained she'd seen. And so...she said the next thing that came to mind. "Nin shi shui ren men?![3]" Obviously, the group of people understood part of what she said...and the tone of it...and tried to answer back. The only things she could really understand seemed to be names. In particular her own, Bai Mianxi Lung. When one of the people had said her name, she blinked and loosened up a bit. At least they knew who she was... Then another voice, in garbled English, Chinese, and something else. It sounded a bit like...a bit like Blue! The group of people nodded and backed a bit away from Bai Mianxi, who dusted herself off. "I'm sorry about that. They're an excitable bunch, Bai Mianxi." It was Blue! The Chinese-dressed girl was so happy to hear the familiar voice of the ship's computer. "Blue! Thank shen[4], mou ren shu xi![5] Zen me hui shi?[6] Where am I? And who are ta men[7]?" "They are Sensors, Bai Mianxi. You've been gone for awhile, and have missed much." Bai Mianxi blinked and looked at the strange people with her own 'WTF?' look. "I've been gone? Duo jiu?[8]" "Long enough that your parents are dead and if any of your siblings are living, they are quite old." The Chinese girl blinked. "Zen me shi na nei na ke neng?[9] I wasn't at a Mender station that long...It's not possible." Blue paused for a moment, then proceeded with her explanation. "You're dead, Bai Mianxi. Or you were. But I kept your consciousness safe in my databanks, until the sensors could make an emitter pack for you." "I...Zen me?![10]" She started to go off in Chinese, not quite making sense to anyone, just ranting. The entire time, her hands stayed tucked into her sleeves, moving only when she wanted to emphasize something. And then she passed through the table. She stood still in the middle of the metal object, eyes wide. "Zei bu shi ke neng di...[11]" "Sorry, Bai Mianxi...but your body is holographic now." This would certainly take some getting used to. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [1] Morning [2] You (formal) [3] Who are you people?! [4] Gods [5] Someone familiar [6] What's going on? [7] They [8] How long? [9] How is that possible? [10] What? [11] This isn't possible...
