Sitting silently on the bed, watching the still, twilight air and twinkling stars through the window, you dream of things to be. Strange thoughts enter and leave your head, drifting by like passing clouds. A shining tear forms in your eye, perfectly shaped, it rolls slowly down your cheek, catching the pale stream of moonlight showing though the net curtains. The world outside looks so peaceful, quiet, but you know it's not, you know it's a loud and polluted place, full of strangers, full of enemies. You watch the purple-tinted skyline hover in your vision, feeling the single teardrop trace a damp line down your face.
The still air within the room begins to opress you, you feel closed in, locked away, as if in hiding. You feel unable to escape. There seems to be nothing to breathe in, and your breath quickens, fast and shallow, to accomadate. The panic creeps through your limbs, reaching every corner of your body, putting you on edge. You find it hard to concentrate, the room swirls around you, the warm, humid atmosphere causing you to feel faint.
You rise from your seated position and stagger to the window, but you hear no footsteps, and even in your present state, think something strange of it, think it unnatural.
The thin curtains provide no obstacle, and even the window slides open in front of you, as if the glass was never there. As if the night had crept into your house, to steal what little comfort you had. The horizon seems to swim towards you, hazy and close, you step forward, away from the windowsill. The night air stands beneath your feet, and you continue slowly towards the horizon, no restraints holding you back, nothing holding onto you anymore. You smile dreamily, a dazed look crossing over you, your eyes becoming glazed as you realise, this wasn't a life you were living, you were already dead, but trapped, and you continue towards the purple-tinted horizon, smiling, free...
