Hawk's World of Wonder! No, I don't sell MODchips...
Wherein Hawk drove back the oppressors with a pointy stick.
The Man. The Legend. The Saxophone. The...Mistake?
So I never did actually write anything about what happened on Saturday with the masterclasses and all. I just kind of forgot after being so tired and working half of the day Sunday. My brain's pretty fragile, you know.

Well people played for Londeix and Dr. Street and it was...Confusing, to say the least. See, Monsiuer Londeix doesn't speak English at all so Dr. Street was having to translate everything he said. The problem was that Dr. Street wouldn't wait for Londeix to finish a sentence before translating and the tow of them talking over one another was impossible to understand at times. That mixed with the reverb in Elizabeth Hall just killed me in trying to figure out what was going on.

The best thing to be played at the masterclass was Mike playing "Tableau de Provence" and the top quartet of ours playing Ticheli's "Backburner." It's not egotism either considering there weren't many people from other schools there and honestly, they weren't very good anyway. I saw Joey (Guy I went to BCC with) there because he plays in UCF's saxophone quartet. They did all right, but they don't have any sense of ensemble and dynamics from what I heard. They played the Glazunouv saophone quartet and their phrasing was just awful. Two bar phrases do not a happy Chris make. gonk

The masterclass itself later on was completely incomprehensible thanks to double speaking by Dr. Street and Londeix. Such is life though when you're trying to learn from a Frenchman and a French-Canadian. Not saying I dislike anyone of those nationalities, but it's just impossible to understand something in French when you're an uneducated American is all. At least the performance by Dr. Street at the end of the night went well and was enjoyable for the most part. Some of the pieces played were...Well, they were complete s**t. Some were quite interesting and fun though. I actually talked to the pianist Roger Admiral after and during the performance about the pieces he played and one piece he wrote on his and Dr. Street's CD "Heliosax."

While we talked, I finally got the courage to ask Londeix to sign a poster of himself for me and well...He screwed up on it the first time. Her heard Mr. Admiral tell him my name is spelled "C-H-R-I-S" and all Londeix heard was the "C" part. Marc got a poster signed earlier too and he remembered Marc's name being spelled with a C, so I have two posters because of it; One where he started to put Marc's name and then mind, and then one for just me. It was good times and all and I enjoyed talking with the three of them. Nice guys all and quite knowledgable.

Too bad I had to work Sunday so that I couldn't have a day of relfection and relaxation. I suppose that's what this week's coming vacation is for though. whee
