????
These are the records of certain occurrences and musings in my life. It is probably not of much importance to you, unless you enjoy being a sleuth or have some vague interest in listening to me prattle about my flavour-of-the-month.
Animes I'm Watching
Alright, unlike my previous journal entries, which were about my life and what happening during the day/week/month or whatever else ... this is something quite different. You see, I keep watching different animes and never finishing them, and then I forget where I was and it's a real pain. So, this is going to be my handy little entry where I keep all my animes and mangas and what episode/chapter I'm on. Oh, and just for recording purposes I'll be listing the series I've already completed aswell. Okay, here we go. ^__^

Okay, so I finally finished Saikano. It was an okay series, not really worthy of high-praise but it was interesting enough to watch. The best part about it was the love between Chise and Shuji obviously, as that was pretty much what the whole show was about, despite the fact that there was a world-scale war going on between (what I gather) the east and the west, the east being Japan and such and the west being Americans, right? To be honest nothing, absolutely nothing is explained about the war or the opponents, and the only reason why we figure out that the enemies are from the west is because in one episode, a straggler stumbles out and starts speaking English at Yukari... after which they both shot eachother simultaneously and died.

The show would of probably been leagues more interesting and involving if there had been any detail of anything besides Shuji and his relationship with the three main girls of the series - Chise, Akemi, and Ms. Fuyumi. Chise is probably the most developed character besides Shuji, but her personality is a bit shallow, and she cries far far too often, even for someone who is going through what she is. Nonetheless, she is really cute, a super moeblob really, and I was never against those. Shuji is a cool type of guy, so he never annoyed me.

The whole show is rather depressing, but I found the emotional scenes to be way too pressing and horribly paced, so that I wasn't that affected by them at all. The saddest part of the whole thing was when Akemi died. There was a lot of potential but unfortunately I feel it was ruined by the excessiveness of the sad and crying scenes. Every single moment was occupied by Chise crying over being a weapon who doesn't want to live, can't protect and only destroy, and her desire to be with Shuji etc. If it wasn't that, it was another scene with a girl or a person who was lamenting about life. There was really just no calm, fun scenes at all. That, more then anything, grated on me in the end.

The artstyle takes some getting used to, but I found it to be rather nice, even if there were quite a few QUALITY scenes here and there... but eh, that's common. The soundtrack was quite good, particularly the opening and ending songs, pity the opening animation was too boring to watch more then once or twice.

The ending baffles me with it's improbability. That, like the rest of the show, will never be explained I suppose. Oh well, all and all I give this one probably 6/10. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either. I'll stick to Key for my tearjerker romances.
