Thoughts
Shadowed

A shadow world all my own
Where darkness lurks and demons roam.
Frightening things are everywhere,
A constant fear hangs in the air.
The sky is dark, no star in sight,
In my world of velvet night.
In shadowed corners nightmares hide,
This chosen place they now reside.
But I refuse to be afraid,
'Lest my world begins to fade.
And if it should, perhaps I'd cry
For then I'd know the sunlight sky.
Not that I don't wish to see
What the light could make of me.
I just prefer the shadow world
Where all my nightmares are uncurled.

In this place I call my home
There's no one else, I'm all alone.
All the rest have run away
To live in light and sunshine day.
At first I only could sit and stare
Praying to see another there.
Then at last the demons came
And showed me things could be the same.
They taught me how the silence sings
And the joins of childish things.
Now I question without fear
"Was there ever another here?"
Perhaps I always was along
In this shadow world I call my own.

I watch the things beyond my sight,
The world of life and love and light.
It's better to receive than it is to give.
That's what I see as people live.
I hear their stories, tales of danger,
Of a blackened night, an unseen stranger.
"Fear the dark and love the day.
It's always best." That's what they say.
I shake my head and turn away,
Back to shadows where I'll stay.
Back to games with friendly fright.
Back to darkness, silent night.
Back to nightmares all my own
That the world of light once had known
They long have forgotten this place exists
A Mirror of Black too much to resist.
And so forever I'm trapped, eternally free.
The shadowed Relfection of all you see.
