Bryan Kuznetzov's eyes widened slightly in surprise. It had been well over a week since he had heard from any of the Rage Beat, not just their infamous red-headed Augury. It was true that the two teams seemed to hate each other, but that was during blading season. When they were away, the Rage Beat girls were probably the best friends the Blitzkrieg Boys were blessed with.
Typing quickly, Bryan sent the girl an IM and waited. 'Waited with beating heart,' Bryan thought, a direct reference to the novel he had finished some weeks before, Dracula. The tone he had set for Malin's incoming IMs was unique to her: Avril Lavigne's Fall to Pieces, and it rang in his ears suddenly, making him start.
Falborg18: Long time no see, Malin. Where've you been? Suzaku161: Hey, Bryan. The girls and I took a week in Paris, and I didn't have time to IM you. What's up?
Bryan smiled slightly at the French femme's explanation. He should have known it was Paris; the Rage Beat often went there on their off time. His fingers moved furiously across the keyboard while remaining as quiet as possible.
Falborg18: I might have known. You girls are lucky to be able to go whenever you like. ('I don't wanna fall to pieces!') Suzaku161: Why don't you guys come down here for a while? Falborg18: Are you serious? ('I just wanna sit and stare at you.') Suzaku161: As a heartattack. Falborg18: I'll have to ask Tala if he wants to. Even if he doesn't, I wouldn't mind seeing your farm.
There was a long pause in which Bryan could see the girl finding the cost of plane tickets to Auvergne, France, from Moscow, Russia. After a span of about five minutes (during which time, Bryan ordered more classic literature via Amazon.com), he glanced at the screen just as Malin's reply came.
('I don't wanna talk about it.') Suzaku161: You guys can swing it. Falborg18: Where would we stay? ('And I don't want a conversation.') Suzaku161: With us girls. Duh! Falborg18: Well I knew that. I meant where would we sleep? ('I just wanna cry in front of you.') Suzaku161: We'll set up the air mattresses in the loft around the TV and bathroom. Falborg18: I thought this was a barn. ('Don't wanna talk about it.') Suzaku161: It is. A very high-tek barn. Falborg18: I'd pay to see that. Hey, Malin? Y'know the tone that tells you you've got a new IM? What did you set for me? ('Cuz I'm in love with you.') Suzaku161: .....'Life is a Highway', Bryan. I have to get to bed. Das vigonya. Falborg18: Au revoir, Malin.
Bryan smiled slightly at the goodbyes. Her attempt at the Latinized spelling of goodbye in Russian was a good one, and he himself didn't know it. It was phonetics for Malin, and he gave her props for it. Also, he had felt a slight blush on his face when he'd typed out the French words. He and Malin could be the bitterest of enemies in the dish, but they were friends outside it. The song she had given him was just like him: always wandering and never caring, riding the highway of his life.
