So I was wondering what was killing off my tomato plants and it was the
Tomato Hornworm. I've NEVER seen one before and my dad told me he saw
a HUGE caterpillar that was at least 3 inches long.
I looked at it up close and told my dad, "That's not a caterpillar. That's a
Tomato Hornworm and they LOVE to eat tomato plants."
My dad said he threw a tiny one that looks like it into the bushes, but kept the
huge one. I can't seem to kill the darn thing.. even though, it ate most of my tomato plants.. it's just so darn CUTE!
I heard that some people from the South eat these. GROSS! I'm not going to do that.
I'm going to keep it as a pet and give it lots of veggies. I learned that they love to
chomp on the Nightshade family plants, cucumbers, potatoes, tobacco, moon flower and peppers.
They turn into Hawkeye Moths also known as the Hummingbird Moth.
They only live for 2-3 weeks.
Such a short life.
