just jotting this down, because.
having learned japanese for, oh, 4 years formally, but then... it's been about 16 years of part time study...anyway
i had always learned coffee as 'kohii'. right? and you pronounce the h.
h-h- like happy. harry. hello. h.
and even in dramas i've watched, i've heard that h. ko-hi-i.
until i actually went to tokyo.
i don't remember if it was my first trip in 2013. but definitely in my second trip in 2015.
ko-ii. it almost sounded like.
the h was all but silent. it was so subtle.
i wonder if it's a current trend, something that's always been, or perhaps a particular dialect.
