Fallen Leaf
In the early mornings light
Blossoms a tree of verdant green
Stretching limbs into the sky
For joy of life abounds.
In the absence of a summer breeze
Turns a leaf upon a branch
And crys with tears not brought of rain
For life that fails with every breath.
In the twilight of an evening's mist
I hold that leaf within my palms
And watch as emerald turns to rust
A thought I have, a tear it brings.
Within the shadows of my mind
For just a moment eternity fills
That restless communion between us two
?Don?t die dear child of Nature, don?t die?
In the quiet dimness of the night
I turn and cry for life that?s lost
And pray my memories never fly
For all I have is what he was.
Within the soul of all of us
We see the tree inside ourselves
And watch with shock the child that dies
With all that's left is emptiness.
Between the night and morning's grey
I see the tree of verdant green
Which senses loss of life so dear
And feels it?s beauty lost by one.
