Dreams/Life Goals: Having lived to quite an age he's accomplished most of his goals for life. Now he's content to live surrounded by what he likes, which he does for the most part.
Hobbies: Cooking, bending, gardening, and talking with the people he represents are what you'll find him doing in his spare time.
Likes: The people of his ward, bending (not surprisingly), exotic plants, quiet, and honesty.
Dislikes: Rashness, dishonesty, incompetent chefs, and gangs' illegal activities.
Fears: Failing in his duty as a councilman, the overbearing sprawl of technology and industry, the devil beetle for the threat it is presents for his garden.
Biography: Sheng came to Republic City when he was middle aged, already a master air bender. Easy to get along with, he quickly found a job and integrated himself into the community. As the years went on he became more and more involved in community affairs until he eventually ran to represent the ward he lived in and won. He has been on the council ever since and his popularity in his ward has never waned despite his conservative views of technology and the influence of industry on Republic City politics. As was the wont for the times, he was selected to teach the Avatar air bending by public vote.
He started the Purists not in secret at first, but in seclusion. He taught and advised a small group of people in his spare time that didn't want to use BATs. As he saw his fears and dislikes grow in the political arena and his options in dealing with them dwindle he started looking at the group as a way to deal with the problems. Soon after that he 'withdrew' leadership, letting one of his top students take the role as the face of the Purists while he stayed in the background so as to cause little turmoil in the rest of his life. The group started acting more and more boldly as he felt that he had no options left open to him.
Strengths/Good Qualities: Patient, wise, and able to sympathize with many. He is also a private idealist; holding his ideals high, but only letting them be known if they are asked. He is also still able to bend easily, often incorporating water bending into his work outs to help with joint health and flexibility.
Weaknesses/Bad Qualities: He is a idealist, even if he isn't open about it. This makes him a roadblock on the council sometimes, leading to flaring tempers, though not usually his own. Also, should you somehow manage it, he has a temper so fiery it would cow most fire benders. Most of his fears are abstract things, his bending making him far less fearful of physical threat he might encounter in life.
Temperament: A heavily dormant temper. Usually calm, peaceful, and helpful.
Talents: Master Air Bender, and privately a master of several interdisciplinary styles.
