Little boy, what’s your name?
I see you cry,
But I can’t see any pain in your eyes.
What’s your story?
What things do you like to play?
Do you have a little sister?
Do you make sure she’s okay?
Little girl, I see you dancing,
Rocks beneath your feet,
But you’re still laughing.
Why do I worry when I have more than I need?
At times I’m so ungrateful,
But now I fall to my knees,
When a child is starving,
Where is God?
And as a mother is dying,
Where is God?
And when nations are fighting,
Poacher’s delighting,
Someone please tell me why!
Your old man in a hospital bed,
Waiting second by second,
Wondering how long he has.
He talks through the night,
With his wife by his side,
Trying to find the strength
To tell his daughter goodbye.
When he thought he couldn’t fight,
Where was God?
When he was sick every night,
Where is God?
All the years he had to fight,
With no cure in sight,
Where was God?
Then I remember the little boy’s face.
The dark of his eyes
Conceal stories of pain.
While I’m selfishly stubbornly placing the blame,
Maybe I need to believe in God in this place.

It made me think of my desire to be a father one day...
And my fear of having a daughter! I hope she will have a big brother to make sure she is ok!
