Too many people are backstabbers and too many are obsessed, so you need someone like me who's not wrapped around your finger. And I need someone like you, to remind me what's really behind the collective mask of the world.

Do you really want the answers? Or are you just asking because you're just trying to wrap your little finger around me because I said I wasn't wrapped around yours?

It's a little tough to explain, so try to stay with me and not get offended.

You're aware of the philosophy (predominant in Christian and Jewish faiths) that the world and it's ruler (Satan) are evil and that anyone who is a true Christian (or Jew) is "in the world but not of the world" and all that rhetoric, right? And I'm sure you know of one or more professing Christians who insist upon only having friends who think like them, go to their church, etc. Some people in my church believe that being "exclusive" about their affections is the only way to remain "not of the world." They're snobs, basically, and look down on anyone with outside connections, gossiping about "dealing with the beast" and blah blah blah.

Being the rebel that I am, I believe that that sort of isolationist thinking is extremely dangerous, spiritually speaking. How are you supposed to know the wolf in sheep's clothing if you don't know what a wolf looks or sounds like? And how can you tell the difference between a WiSC and just a particularly nasty sheep? How can you be solid in your beliefs if you don't know anything else? You CAN'T. I've seen it happen to so many kids in my home town (which is in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most churches in one square mile); their parents "protected" them by ONLY teaching the kids THEIR way of thinking, and then when Jr. and Suzie got to real life, they were DESTROYED. Literally. Drugs, alcohol, rape, abuse--Everything they ever believed was questioned, and they had nothing to turn to, only what good ol' mom and dad said, which really didn't help them with anything they were dealing with now. They're basically spiritually bankrupt with no foundation, no structure, nothing. So then they go through a HUGE identity crisis, like a second puberty, only on an emotional and spiritual level, and come out the other end atheists, wiccians, extremists, fundamentalists, or just plain insane.

You, my dear, darling Twilight, are about as far on the other side of the religious spectrum from me as a person can get, and yet we can still be friends because deep down there is something...well, just SOMETHING in you that is good (good being a very broad and circumstantial term). But at the same time, you don't think like me. You don't act like me. When I go to the bible for moral support, you go somewhere completely different, and I find it amusing to realize that even as different as we are, we come to very similar conclusions especially about dealing with people who don't understand us. We wear similar masks when we deal with the general populace, and from our underlying, outlier behaviour being mostly concealed by these masks, I can maintain a standard for measure of how other people also hide their true motivations. You get me thinking, and help me to realize how really different I am from so many people--even (especially) those who claim to worship the same God I do but don't--and really how different I NEED to be in order to do some of the things I need to do.

You are a beacon of reality. By keeping you in the picture, you add something (there's that SOMETHING again) to the pallet that brings the rest of the world into better focus. Maybe perspective is that "something." It's like everyone has the blacks and whites and sometimes grays on their world-view pallet--they know what is absolutely right and wrong and have a few ideas about the sticky situations in the middle--but they forget about the other colors, their chemical and digital makeups, and how that can influence a person MORE than just black, white, and gray. I don't believe the enemy works in monochrome—I know I don't, and if I was trying to deceive someone I wouldn’t do it in black and white—I'd do it in fleshy colors, shaded for the most voluptuous effects possible. If you want to get someone's attention, it usually has to be in bold, brilliant color! You are definitely a color I need in my palet. Actually, you're more like turpentine, washing away the thick, deceptive gloss of people who try to sidle up to me and convince me that they're the same as me. With you, I have some luxuries I don't have with other friends, like completely avoiding and disregarding the long-standing "all roads lead to God" agreement-to-disagree that fuels the "Why don't you come to my church? We all preach the same things" BS, or the condescending "You don't really have to follow THAT law anymore" remarks, or even the "pfft--what holy days?" that I get from other so-called followers of Christ. It's an interesting feeling that I get with you that I don't have to explain how my version of Christianity is different from the next or why it's different or what exactly has been taken out of context and twisted so that children worship a fat man in a red suit and a rabbit that lays eggs. I don't claim to understand what you believe, either, but I do enjoy hearing about it because you came to your beliefs on your own, in your own way and time. Your personal spiritual journey actually helps me solidify mine, even though we're going in completely opposite directions.

And yet we're still friends.

Now, have I given you answer or totally confused you?
