Silence entered 'The Boss''s mission room, as he called it, so he could give Silence his next mission. 'The Boss' was already in a chair waiting for him.
"You do good jobs, but we need you for more. Government angry with you, send small notice for you to meet someone. I want you to make sure everyone fears our organization. I don't care how. Inlcude us in joke, fly into crazy, unexpected anger mood, advertise, I do not care in little bit. You meet here."
He pointed to a spot on a map, a crowded but deserted part of town.
"At ...ehhh...what is word....two hour past ten."
Silence nodded. Twelve, you moron.
'The Boss clapped his hands, but still had more to say.
"They request you go alone. We think it...beneath us to not do as they say. Show them how scary you can be, and make them fear what we all can do."
Silence nodded again. 'The Boss' smiled and turned his chair, leting Silence know to leave. He already guessed it was today, considering it was posted on every news channel about the meeting. He had an hour before the meeting. Of course, no one knew it was him who would be speaking, and that the meeting was not to be videotaped. Silence figured the early bird got the worm.
Silence was almost at the street, though it took him a long time to get to there. He still didn't know much about the city, so it was tough for him. He stepped past an alley to find someone lash out at him, and Silence quickly caught the weapon and was about to cut the attacker's stomach open when he realized it was a child. Beyond the boy was a group of smaller kids, some bearing the boy' looks, other obviously from different families. Runaways and orphans. Silence tried to turn away, but there was something about the boys eyes. They had a certain sparkle...That I had...before it was extinguished completly...this kid is...me. Before I became this.
He slowly walked over to the group, the smaller ones cowering while the boy tried to pull him away. Silence ignored them and struck his blades together, a few sparks being produced, creating a small flame where an attempt to make one was. The children looked at him like he was their savior. Under his hood, Silence smiled, but quickly scowled, trying to destroy the feeling he got from their faces. He turned, but as he went he tossed a few bills at the boy who attacked him.
The boy started after him. "Thank you...so much. I was worried I wouldn't be able to feed them this month."
Silence turned. He looked at the boy, his face now full of hope, a heavy weight off the his little shoulders. Silence patted the boy's head and continued walking. He felt oddly good in a place that had not felt good in a while, a place where he felt good continueously, once upon a time. He turned onto the street, the group of children starting to move across it but quickly stopped. A woman was standing on the street, in full army uniform. She looked at Silence like she was a rich, snobby multimillionaire and Silence was scum on the road, trying to mess up her limo. Silence didn't look afectted by such a look.
"You came. Good. Now, we want to discuss your crimes."
Silence just sighed.
"Don't tell me you came to arrest me."
"We did not. We say, if you tell us everything you know, if you can, we will release all charges. If not, we will bring in the death penalty on you straight away."
Behind her, several tanks started moving in, all pointed at Silence.
Silence didn't seem to notice.
"I'm not telling you a thing. You don't need to know."
The woman shrugged.
"Ok, we'll kill you. I was ordered to give you three chances, but I don't think you deserve any chances."
And you don't stand one.
The woman turned and walked away, waving her hand, and a tank moved a bit so it wouldn't hit her as it fired, but then the group of kids started across the street to the part of town that they could use the money, attracting the attention of the tanks. The woman pointed at the group, thinking they were a part od Silence's team as she expected him to betray her. The tanks opened fire on the helpless kids. When the smoke cleared, most of the bodies were intact, but the force of the explosions killed the children. The woman simply shrugged.
"Woops. Our mistake. Thank god it was only a bunch of street rats."
She got into a helicopter and it flew away, the woman trying to watch the scene and the driver complied and turned to get a better view and hovered. She looked at Silence, whose back was to the tanks as he saw the bodies and had watched the destruction.
One of the tanks fired, but there was no explosion. Silence's hand was up, but not a a surrender. The missile was in his hand. He was shaking in utter fury.
