Character and Writing Archive
My early entries concerned my real life back when I was a teen. Now a days, I find my journal to be a wonderful place to store some of my shorter writings and of course, character profiles. Feel free to look through them, and comment when you see fit
Kale
Full Name - Kale Lanier

Preferred name(s) - Kale

Age - Mid 20s* May be in appearance only

Race - Vampire (human based)

Home World - RP world

References - Here

Height - 5'8"

Description - Kale is average height and somewhat slender. He has long, silky red hair, which he often keeps in a ponytail. When I say red, I mean real life red, which is a more orangeish red. He has sharp green eyes, but as a vampire those eyes can become a very deep red when he feels powerful emotions. His skin is fair and pale. His face was smooth when he was human, but it's gained some lines since he was turned. He still looks fairly young despite that. Kale does have muscles; he's a seasoned adventurer and well-versed in the sword and bow.

Clothing - Kale usually wears casual formal wear. Namely, dress shirts and trousers. He has a preference for silk, dark colors, and green. A basic button up shirt and trousers will do for him. He always wears a burnished gold amulet with a sapphire set in it, and sometimes he wears a fang earring. The Tekteks give some alternative (and fantasy-oriented) outfits.

Tekteks - Here, for some specific looks.

Personality - Kale is not nice. He never was, and never will be. He is scarily intelligent and well-versed in manipulation, preferring to use subtle threats and intimidation rather than bluffs or seduction. Kale has a vengeful streak, and a short temper. He demands respect for his work and his person, and those who don't comply will quickly find themselves victims of his favorite pastime: torture. He has a passion and a talent for it, utilizing both physical and mental tortures to break his victims. Those who try to break him will find themselves at his mercy; pushing Kale's buttons is never a good idea. His vampirism has only exacerbated his harsh personality, giving him an obsession with fear. If one can get past all of this and gain Kale's respect, they will have a fickle ally. Those who gain his affection (and they are very few) will gain a life long friend, and if they are male, maybe even a lover.

Character History - Kale grew up as a peasant child, one of many in his family. He had numerous brothers and sisters, and helped take care of the younger ones. Even as a child, Kale was never the nicest. He had a penchant for torturing small animals, though he always left cats alone. He was never quite like the other children, preferring to play on his own in the woods rather than with the others. He didn't speak until he was five, and his parents thought him a changeling. They were extremely strict with him, even moreso than their other children as a result. Kale dealt with the strictness, and got better at hiding his differences. He learned how to internalize his emotions, and made that his defense mechanism.

When Kale grew old enough to start having feelings for other people, he got quite a shock. Rather than being interested in girls like everyone else, he got a crush on his father's apprentice, a young man from a neighboring town. Kale had been raised from birth to believe that a man should only love a woman, and he recoiled from himself for feeling such things. He worked hard to repress these feelings as he had many others, but he was unsuccessful and ended up confessing his feelings. It was his stupidest decision; his family rejected him completely, kicking him out of the house with little more than the clothes on his back and a curse to his name.

Kale turned away, and he never looked back.

His teenage years, he turned to thievery and murder to assuage his hurt from the exile. He completely buried his sexuality, refusing to have anything to do with the act, be it with a man, woman, or no one at all. During his exile, he found a book filled with 'runes', very special symbols that cast spells when drawn. Kale lacked the ability to read or write, but he took this book and learned the runes through trial and error. It took a lot of hard work and self-teaching, but he eventually learned how to use runic magic, and through that gained a unique understanding of how to cast with them.

In his late teens, Kale was approached by a fellow assassin, one who was impressed with his work. He was offered a place in the assassin's guild, and he eagerly accepted. Once he joined, he found a new family of sorts, headed by a man who distinctly did not like him: Vicente. Kale returned this enmity, and the two butted heads constantly. Vicente didn't trust Kale. He believed the boy was too impulsive and angry to be a proper assassin, and Kale thought he was old and washed up. Vicente was ordered to train Kale, something neither man liked but both had to deal with.

Things changed. Vicente discovered Kale's talent with runes, and Kale discovered the hidden strengths of his teacher, including his vampirism. They both gained new respect for each other, and as time passed, Kale saw Vicente as a father to replace his own. At the time, he didn't understand the new feelings, and misinterpreted them to a different kind of love. It made things awkward for the older man. He loved Kale dearly, but as a son rather than a lover. Still, he took it in stride and took the chance to teach Kale in a different manner.

When Kale proved himself in the guild, Vicente offered to turn him. Kale jumped at the chance, and when he turned 25, he became a vampire. The first years was hard, filled with constant bloodlust and nights plagued with nightmares. Vicente assisted Kale as best he could through his newborn phase. Luckily for the redhead, it was a short period, and at the end, he was summoned by one of the higher ups of the guild for a special mission. He eagerly went, looking forward to impressing his sire with his new control.

Imagine his surprise when his orders were to murder everyone in his branch, including Vicente.

At first, Kale refused. He'd grown to care about the others in his branch of the guild, thought of them as a second family. He'd grown dependent on them, replacing his biological family with them. His superior didn't care, and forced him to do as ordered. Kale eventually caved, but he still delayed. He looked for a way to save his branch, especially his sire. Vicente eventually found out about Kale's contract, and forced him to complete it to the last man that very day. They fought one last time, this time to the death. As he died, Vicente left his possessions to his son; Kale treasures them to this very day, and will kill anyone who dares to even look at them the wrong way.

After that day, Kale changed. He grew cold and ruthless, mindlessly following orders from his superior in his grief. He looked to the man as the last of his 'family', something the other did not reciprocate. That same mindlessness led to a traitor in their midst duping Kale and getting him to kill the other members. It culminated in him killing the leader, getting caught in the act by his direct superior. He was ordered to find the traitor. He found evidence proving his superior's innocence, and rushed to return to him. He was too late.

Kale walked in to a corpse and a triumphant set of assassins. He was in shock, and silently allowed them to lead them to headquarters, where he learned that everything he'd done--killing his family, killing his sire, following orders, even trying to find the traitor--was for nothing. It broke the hold Kale had on his emotions, and he went on a rampage, murdering everyone he saw and then some. He renounced the guild and became a freelancing assassin, using the moniker of 'Night'.

Kale lived on through the years, silently hating himself for falling for the trap, for allowing himself to care. He once again brutally repressed his emotions, letting nothing but anger and hatred rule his life. He continued to learn runes, kill people, and lead an empty existence. As time passed, the emotions he repressed grew, and anyone who breaks the seal he has over them will find themselves begging for death.

These days, Kale is still an assassin. He has no friends, no family, and very few possessions he deems precious. He exists, but does not live, and will not do so until he deals with his issues.

Abilities

Night sight

Runic magic - Kale is an accomplished rune mage, and knows many powerful rune combinations.

Alchemy - Kale's damn good at it.

Vampiric abilities - these will vary on his universe. With no verse, they include regeneration, high resistance to poisons, immunities to disease and paralysis, and a lack of a need to sleep. He also has several vampire spells he can use in tight situations.

Vampire Weaknesses - Kale has several of the typical vampire weaknesses, and lacks others. He has a weakness to silver, fire, holy symbols presented with strong faith, and a severe weakness to sunlight. He lacks the weaknesses to garlic, running water, and can enter dwellings with no trouble. Piercing his heart will kill him, whether the body is destroyed or not.

Weaponry - Varies. He has an enchanted bow and dagger, both of which do more damage and cause unique effects. He also uses other weapons appropriate for the time period and magic available.

Companions - Kale keeps no companions. The only being who could even be considered such is his horse, a black mare who has Nightmare blood. Her mane shimmers like black fire, her eyes are red, and she's the only being who loves Kale unconditionally.

Miscellaneous - Kale likes sweets and baked goods, and knows how to bake quite well. He also has a love of poetry and classic literature. He has a debilitating fear of being upside down, and an irrational hatred of rape. He also finds the female form to be slightly disgusting.

Personal History - Kale is an Oblivion character given his own story. He's developing very well these days, and I look forward to learning more about him.
