My Childhood: part 2: Maggie's Last Day
Mom and Daddy have been fighting alot lately. Coty, my brother, said that they were going to get a divorce. I didnt even know what a divorce was, but I'm guessing that whatever it is, it can't be very good. I hope that they will stop fighting, it scares me to hear Daddy yell like that. I'm tired of all the screaming so I go outside to jump in the pool. Maggie was laying down on her carpet on the deck, so I said hi to her. She didn't move. That was strange, when somebody called her, she always came running or at least lifted her head. She still wasn't moving. I was worried about her so I walked over to her and sat down. She was breathing really weird, like she was fighting for it. I didn't know what that meant, so I assumed it was nothing. She crawled into my arms and I layed my head on her stomach. I could hear her labored breathing and heavy heartbeat. Soon, we were both fast asleep. When I woke up, something seemed wrong, but I couldn't tell what it was. My head was still laying on my dog's stomach, but now it was different. It felt like I was alone. I was scared, so I did the thing I always do when I'm scared, I put my face next to her's and let her thick, war breath soothe me. It was only then that I realized there was no warm air blowing my face. Her stomach was warm, but only where my head had been laying. I ran my hand over her entire body. The rest of Maggie was cold. I layed my head back onto Maggie's stomach, But there was no sound but the wind. She was not breathing. She was not here. She was gone. I was alone. My friend was dead.
