Hana Yori Dango (English Title: Boys Before Flowers)
Type: Manga
Summary: Makino Tsukushi is a poor student at a rich school called Eitoku. She tries to be invisible, telling herself there's only 3 more years of being stuck in a school full of snobby and stuck-up rich kids.
The school is "ruled" by what the students call the "F4", AKA the "Flower 4." If someone were to cross the path of the F4, it would mean big trouble. That person would get a "red tag," and then he/she would be bullied until they dropped out of school.
Makino told herself that she would stay out of the F4's way. However, when walking with one of her friends down the stairs, her friend trips and accidently kicks the leader of the F4, Domyouji Tsukasa, square in the face! Makino stood up for her friend, but the next day, she finds a red tag in her locker!
Makino suddenly becomes a stronger person as the F4 tests her limits, and she finds herself becoming more emersed in their world. Hanazawa Rui seems to be the only one in the F4 that sticks up for Makino. Love develops, chaos ensues, and Makino finds that there are people who would support her no matter what.
Review: Excellent manga, although it was published back in 1992. Don't let the size of the series intimidate you - reading all of them is worth it! However, the main romance is never completely solved (I won't tell you what it is - it was quite a surprise for me, as well!), and that was the only thing I disliked about this. It is surely a very funny, dramatic, and emotional piece of work. If anyone wanted manga recommendations, this would be the first on the list!
