Durgan stared blankly into the cell wall, his thoughts racing along the same tracks in his mind. He wasn't supposed to end up here, but he couldn't remember where he was supposed to be.
"They did a good job in neutering you.", his goddess replied. "The heathen fanatics wouldn't allow a heretic running around exposing them, so they silenced you. Years upon years of seducing you with lies and beating you into submission for completely fabricated excuses. Remarkable. Truly remarkable. Judging by their efforts, I'd say you were on to something."
Durgan listened. It wasn't often that his goddess talked to him, and certainly not this much.
"It all started with Her, didn't it? She introduced you to me. ...and ever since then, they have been trying to stop you. They are afraid of you, because they are afraid of me. The queen has built castle walls out of the corpse of a mountain, carved lumber out of the corpses of trees. She has perverted my creation in every way possible, and there is only one thing that she fears:"
The goddess leaned closer and whispered softly into his ear: "The wrath of nature."
Then and there, Durgan remembered who he really was.
