((Meat of a post, no prettiness.))
Lane's eyes narrowed as his heart squeezed painfully. Why would Eric tell him such a thing? It shouldn't matter what James had done before his death, but Eric knew that Lane would care if his only lover had been a mass murdering ********.
"Why, Eric? Do you think this makes you look better than James? Do you think that I will run into your arms for showing me the light?"
Lane knew that Eric lacked social skills (though after a millennia you would think he could have learned to play nice with his peers), but that still didn't explain Eric's strange behavior of late. Lane knew that Eric still harbored feelings for him, even though Lane thought he'd cut that emotional strand pretty cleanly when he'd banished Eric from his home and screamed that he never wanted to see the dark vampire ever again.
Thinking all of this took such little time, that Lane's next words came out almost immediately after his first.
"You only make yourself look like a fool, Eric Greaves. I hope you enjoy your immortal life being ostracized and distrusted by your fellow vampires."
With that, Lane turned on his heel, his long pale blond hair streaming out behind him, and disappeared into the night.
