The year is approximately circa 8,000 B.C. The Sonian Alliance has launched a devastating and brutal war upon all psychics in the Galaxy. Psychics have been spread out through the entire Galactic Empire. As individuals, many psychics had only moderate powers, capable of only doing certain minor tasks. They could levitate small objects, create fire, and even manipulate the wind. However, they could not heal wounds, shift the earth or fly.
But, a long time ago, a very powerful and intelligent psychic created the Mind-Web, a sub-mana super consciousness that enveloped all psychics and allowed them to draw upon each other’s power. This increased mana reservoir made all psychics simultaneously stronger and more vulnerable at the same time. The understanding amongst psychics was that if share power, you share pain. If one person were to be hurt, all would feel their pain. Eventually they called themselves the Asrie jetti, which is translated as roughly meaning “They who wield the worlds”.
For a time, they prospered. Helping many people with their problems, curing sicknesses and building impossible structures, the Asrie jetti were a kindly group and sought only to benefit the peoples of the different worlds. Alas, the minds of the of the powerful politicians began to see the Asrie jetti’s rise in popularity as a potential threat to their power base and sought to control them by passing laws that would restrict their activities, confine them to specific planets to be watched, and punishing them severely for not following any and all commands that the Sonian Empress’s many subjects may require of them.
Appalled and upset, the psychics sought to have this misinterpretation of their mission rectified, through court, so as to not have to be virtual slaves to the Sonian Empire. However, the Superior Court of Supremacy had already decreed that psychics, being not entirely of the same race as other beings, could not sue in court because all laws to that effect only applied to citizens of the Empire. Citizens had long ago been defined as being of normal, humanoid figure and intelligence.
A harsh outcry of injustice rose amongst the psychics and they began to protest. When word reached the Empress’ ear of what was transpiring in her Empire, she took drastic measures, advancing upon the psychic’s home world.
(The main character has visions of the past concerning various events during the War of Twelve Suns. Twelve Suns is the name of the war because a dozen star systems were destroyed in moments as the battles became more intense.)
