I would love to be telepathic. Seriously, I would. It'd make my job so much easier, on Gaia and in real life.

In the real world I work at the support desk at my college while I study. Helping people there is great, but sometimes it involves a level of telepathy I haven't mastered yet. Same things happens with moderating Gaia. It really is crazy how Gaia reflects life.

Time to make something clear. I made the mistake of assuming this was obvious, but apparently it is not.

Just because you know what you mean does not mean I know what you mean.

When asking for help or explaining a problem assume that anyone reading your message knows nothing about what you are talking about.

The trouble with reports on Gaia is that they take the approach of "I know what I mean so you should know too". There have been many "he was mean to me" reports, thousands of "he posted something naughty", scores of "he hacked me" (because every bad user is male fyi). What's missing is actual useful information. Where and how was he mean to you, where did he post something naughty and what is it, how do you know he hacked you?

Out of the two options, giving too much information is better than giving not enough.

And don't assume people will automatically know what you're talking about. In real life and on Gaia.

The assumption that males are the only ones that hack is based off the demographics seen in various societies. Studies have been conducted with rather intriguing results. Men, it's discovered, commit more crimes than women. People see this on the news. That's why it's huge news when a woman does something that is rarely seen. I'll have to talk to my sister, who studies this more than I do, and see if I can come up with actual numbers. Of course, it varies depending on the country and level of development too. Count how many times you've heard on the news this past year about people being killed. How many of the killers were men, and how many were women? Some would say that defaulting hackers as male is sexist. I'd love to know how many of the hackers and scammers are male and female. xD I do know this, men do seem to out number women in every sort of tech school I've seen. So perhaps it is a fair guess to think a hacker is male. More likely to be right. Did I put you to sleep? xD

Question regarding this thread, is this when people PM a mod without much info? Or is this after they've hit the report button for a post/pm?

This is pretty much in any form of communication, whether it be PM or reporting. Even the students I help at school do it "My computer isn't working"

The male thing, that was just an amusing comment 'cos after I wrote it I realized all of my bad guys were "he" xP
