I Tend To Be...
You really are a curious little s**t aren’t you? I have Attention Deficit Disorder, and it doesn’t bother me at all. I just tend to get distracted very easily by other things around the Asylum. Lucky for me, working in a Fun House comes with a lot of free Ritalin and best of all, I don’t need a prescription since the Head Nurse and Warden both know about it. As for the rest if my personality, I am generally a pretty fun guy, always screwing around, and almost CONSTANTLY ******** around. However, all of these good things come with something bad. I am a bit compulsive, and I cannot keep my mouth shut about anything. Ever. Curse of the loudmouth I suppose.
So I Am Trapped Here Because....
When I think about why I am here ‘trapped’ would be the absolute last term I would use. I work here. However, the story of how I got to be working here is a very long and boring one. I’d rather just tell you about the time I nearly burned down the high school Chemistry Lab while trying to toast a marshmallow over what would be medium-high heat on a Bunsen Burner. Look at that I’m getting off topic already. Heh, I really am A.D.D.
Anywho my story starts out in the only city with the right to be called The Walking City, grand old Boston, Massachusetts. My Pop was a small-time Irish comedian by the name of Roy Nolan Sweeney. Barely anyone had heard of him, he wasn’t particularly good to tell the truth. Most of the time he would be performing in bars and at open-mic night type things. Apparently he was good enough to catch someone’s attention, seeing the fact that I am currently in existence.
My mother was a totally different story. Cary Sinéad O’Leary was a Psychology major at one of the local colleges. She was a teacher’s pet up at Harvard University when she met my father. The one thing that I believe really brought them together was a love of the theater. My mother was absolutely obsessed with Musical Theater, so it was almost hilarious that she would fall in love with a performer. I really wish that she hadn’t been so obsessed to the point where she would actually name her first child after her favorite character in a musical though.
When I came along my parents couldn’t believe it. I had inherited my mother’s features, making me Black Irish. My parents had no idea what to name me. Somehow they got the brilliant idea that I should have both the names “Sweeney” and “Todd” in my name. However, Pop thought that it would be pretty cruel to have Todd as my first name, since the source of the name was slightly obvious, even back then. They decided I was to be Alec Todd Sweeney, and that made them happy. However my mother did often just call me by the name of Todd rather than Alec.
I got used to being called Todd, and my parents probably learned that I was a bit on the hyperactive side, with the shortest attention span either of them had ever seen. My father promptly began to put me to use as new joke material. I really couldn’t have cared less. By the time I was 10 I had been diagnosed with A.D.H.D, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Mum couldn’t believe it, Pop couldn’t help but continue to milk it.
Schooling for me was absolute hell. I hated having to sit still forever and ever while I listened to some teacher who knows everything about nothing rambled on and on and on about nothing. A lot of the time I just found myself feeling like my brain had turned to Jello and fall out of my ears in a half-solid gel. That wasn’t fun, at all. I was just going to be glad to be able to drop out when I turned 16 or something. Oh yeah, I really looked forward to that one.
Surprisingly enough when I was about 16 I found that I was really interested in becoming a Lawyer of all things. Unfortunately, I barely had the attention span to make it through the classes that I needed to make it into a criminal justice major in College. I must have done well enough considering the fact that after a few years I was working at this New Asylum set up by this guy named Aiden.
So now I am working at this place called Cunningham Hall with a new shipment of patients coming in. I’m excited. Maybe I’ll find a good friend to play cards with or something.
